    update...

I finally got a solution fm HP and the drive is recovered. BUT in fixing it and restarting I discovered that my pc would open only in SAFE mode. I don't know what I did but after 3 hrs of trying different things the pc is operating almost normal.

I'm running an HP a 1467 with Vista Home Premium Upgrade. I did something bad but don't know what it was. The PC runs great---except neither of my DVD's work now.Tried uninstall, upgrade drivers etc. Still no DVD's. The computer runs perfectly except for those two drives. One is: HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GSA H21L. The other is TSST CORP DVD ROM TS-H353C. I can't reformat without one of these drives. Help

When starting up your PC, just before the Windows startup logo appears and after the PC starts up, press F8, and then choose the "Last Known configuration" startup.

You can start working from there on...

Hope That Helps!

If I were you, I would power down the machine, and reseat the cables. Which means you unplug and reinsert the cables. There should be a power cord, a data cable either SATA or ribbon depending on the drive, and possibly some drives also have a twisted pair that connects audio to the motherboard but this is mostly on older machines. As for the slowing down of playback, run ccleaner. Also make sure windows firewall is turned on, and also windows malicious software removal which is an antivirus.

My HP GSA-H21L lightscribe burner drive will play a CD but doesn't read a DVD nor will it burn a DVD. Don't know what the problem is but sure would like to! Can someone help? Dee Nickens

Hi,

There was a known problem with the firmware of HP GSA-H21L lightscribe burner where it will read CD and not DVD.

You can try upgrading the firmware from the link below (note: this is for DVD-RW 16X HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GSA-H21L)

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&softwareitem=pv-41633-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

If that does not work, you will have to talk to HP support and get it replaced.

Please rate this if it fix your issue.

Wont burn dc or dvd

Have you tried installing the original software did it have one if NOT. Then go to google type LG DRIVE 16 HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GSA-4166B Software. See what google comes up with you will be surprised. The reason why its not burning as you say is because you are using a foreign software. I hate saying this but sometimes hardware can be sentimental like your wife/husband. Goodluck your prolem lies with software not hardware.
