I have been running validated windows xp for 5 years with automatic updates always set to on and today my screen is black and it says i may be a victim of software counterfeiting ,is this extorsion by microsoft?

  • jay dub
    jay dub May 23, 2016

I read (skimmed) the majority of these comments and most of them say the same thing... "Windows Not Genuine" or "This copy of Windows did not pass Validation". I can tell you now, it IS NOT a form of EXTORTION from Microsoft. If you tried to run an update and encountered these messages, you do in fact have a "Hacked" or counterfeit copy of Windows plain & simple. Only 3 ways that this scenario could take place...

    1) You bought a USED pc/laptop from someone who installed the counterfeit copy of Windows without telling you about it.

    2) You found someone who claimed that they could fix your computer at a lesser cost than what a pc repair company would charge you.

    3) You yourself downloaded and installed a "Hactivated" copy of Windows from a website, specifically a "File Sharing" website such as KickAssTorrents or ThePirateBay, and are trying to play it off because that is technically an illegal operation.

A NEW or Certified REFURBISHED pc/laptop from a store or Amazon.com WILL NOT come with a Hactivated copy of windows. Criminal charges could be filed against them if they did so & as a franchise/corporation, they don't want to acquire that bad reputation.

The are only 2 ways to correct this problem:

    1) BUY a LEGITIMATE COPY of WINDOWS.

    2) Find someone that has a legitimate copy for the SAME BRAND of pc that you are trying to fix. The operating systems would be best suited if the install disc matched what initially came with the pc from the factory.

Example: If you have a Dell that came with Windows Vista, find a Windows Vista OS Install Disc with a Dell OEM.
You will not be required to produce a product key because the product key for your system is already embedded in your systems BIOS Memory. After the completion of the installation, your OS will be automatically activated without the need of a Internet connection.

    Same applies to ALL BRANDS.

HP, Gateway, Acer, Toshiba, Samsung, Sony, Etc.

Warning: Had the original motherboard been replaced, there will no longer be a product key available from your BIOS Memory. Under that circumstance, you can only buy a legitimate copy of the OS that you are wanting & a product key will come with it.

I know that the operating systems are not cheap... I understand that without a doubt, so if money is the issue, look around for a GENUINE OS Install disc. That's about all that you can do.

    PS.

Microsoft Windows XP is no longer a technically supported OS. If you are running Windows XP, keep it offline. There are NO SECUTITY UPDATES for this OS making it EXTREMELY VULNERABLE to Hackers, Viruses, Malware & Spyware.

You will need to contact the person who sold you the system (assuming Windows came with it and you didn't install a copy of it) or sold you this copy of Windows and tell them that you are going to require a LEGAL copy of Windows. If they are unwilling to help you, contact Microsoft and tell them that you were sold a pirated version of Windows and need to get a genuine copy. Genuine means that it is an real and legal version sold by Microsoft. If you purchased a version with a Volume License Key and are not part of an organization that has multiple Volume License Keys for it's systems (and the one you are on), then it is most like an illegal copy.

Your VLK came from a buisness that has not renewed their volume licence key, so the key is expired.

I have a different problem; my Windows 7 passed genuine validation at least two times, worked fine for four months but recently I received the message it's license number has been blocked and I might have been a victim of counterfeit software. I bought the OS in the US but I'm using it in EU. Might it be a problem?

The main or motherboardof your pc is married only one time to a special registration key Contact allways Microsoft if in doubt by register your Microsoft , OEM or retail Microsoft version it is the best way to make different things in registration.
For shure if you have bought a serial on youtube from Vietnam or everywhere it came from , if it was a family licence then you can have pleasure for years if it was windows 7 licence key home edition
Have an old windows install but a newer original microsoft version but that new key doesent install correct because of the older original but with the older code it will update the cd , shouldt i take a new pc self build with a new mainboard then the new code will accept and will accept the new mainboard only one time .
Keep allways the code of an old mainboard also for access with microsoft whit different issues when make an install with succesfull registration.

You see that massage because you did not use a licensed os and you update your unit over the internet and windows detect it. So i would suggest you buy a licensed one or try to reformat your unit using your old cd but this time before you connect your unit over the internet first you go to system and security in your control panel and deactivate or turn off the automatic update ^-^

SOURCE: This copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation

Hey Hi Shalin,
I believe u r not using the key that either is tagged with a branded system or on the cover of the WINDOWS XP DISK. Here, by Volume License Key (VLK) is meant that the PRODUCT KEY FOR WINDOWS XP has been used number of times and after that MICROSOFT has blocked it and it will work with the Computer from which it was registered.. In order to stop piracy MICROSOFT has done that, when a pirated version of windows is used online MICROSOFT record few details like MAK, Hard Drive Serial Number and few important details regarding the pc and on finding the PRODUCT KEY fraud they install WINDOWS GENUINE ADVANTAGE PLUG-IN into the system... If u have paid for the LICENSED VERSION of windows xp then contact the support person from where u bought it otherwise there are ways to remove it as well for that u can follow these steps....

FOR WINDOWS XP

THERE ARE NUMBER OF METHODS BUT FOR YOU THESE 2 METHODS ARE GOOD

1) METHOD:-
TRY SYSTEM RESTORE.

2) METHOD:-
2.1) LAUNCH WINDOWS TASK MANAGER.
2.2) End wgatray.exe Process In Task Manager.
2.3) Restart System In Safe Mode.
2.4) Delete wgatray.exe from c:WindowsSystem32.
2.5)
Delete wgatray.exe from c:WindowsSystem32dllcache.
2.6) Launch RegEdit.
2.7) Browse the following key HKEY_LOCALMACHINESOFTWAREMICROSOFTWINDOWSNTCurrentVersionWinlogonNotify.
2.8) Delete The Folder "WgaLogon" and all of its component.
2.9 ) Reboot System.

3.0) BE HAPPY NOW.... AND NEVER EVER INSTALL WINDOWS GENUINEADVANTAGE NOTIFICATION IN WINDOWS UPDATE OTHERWISE YOU HAVE TO REPEATTHE DAMN PROCESS AGAIN.

IN ORDER TO THAT FOLLOW THIS

START
--> CONTROL PANEL--> AUTOMATIC UPDATES --> CHOOSE THE OPTION """"""""""""Notify me but don't automatically download or install them"""""""""""

When u use this option whenever your system detects any new WINDOWSUPDATE choose the updates which u want to install... DON'T INSTALLWINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK --3.

If this doesnt work then follow this
{THIS IS THE LINK http://www.wikihow.com/Remove-Windows-Genuine-Advantage-Notifications}

STEPS TO REMOVE WINDOWS GENUINE ADVANTAGE

  1. If you have only just installed Windows Genuine Advantagenotifications, simply using the system restore function will remove theprogram. Then refuse to accept the WGA update next time Windowsupdates... Otherwise, proceed as detailed below. (NOTE: If you try these steps while you are in "Safe Mode," step #8 is unnecessary).
  2. First Try the Following:
  3. - Open a CMD Line Window by Clicking on Start ==>Run ==> type CMD and Press OK.
  4. - Change Directory into the System32 Folder (Like Cd c:WindowsSystem32)
  5. - Open a notepad Window and type the following lines:
  6. taskkill -IM wgatray.exe
  7. del wgatray.exe
  8. del wgalogon.dll
  9. - Highlight and copy to the Clipboard the three lines above
  10. - now Paste the the contents of the Clipboard to the CMD Window
  11. This should kill the wgatray.exe Process from the Taskbar andimediately delete both files wgatray.exe and wgalogon.dll without theneed to to go through all steps bellow.
  12. If that does not work, then continue and follow the steps bellow
  13. Open System32 by either A or B of the following methods:

    • a) syst32runok.pngClick "Start", "Run", then type-in "System32". Click "Okay".
    • b) Find System32 manually by clicking "Start" > "My Computer"> "(X:)" (Replacing "X" with the drive letter of the host ofWindows) > "Windows" > "System32".

  14. In "System32", go to "Tools" > "Folder options" > click onthe tab, "View" > Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types". Now you can begin...
  15. Check to make sure the window that comes up has a full screen ofvarious files. The files are in alphabetical order, which makes iteasier to locate the specific file.
  16. wgarenme.pngFind "WgaLogon.dll" and rename it "WgaLogon.dll.bak".
  17. Create an empty copy of WgaLogon.dll:

    • crtebnkwga.pngRight click on a blank space in System32 and select "New" > "Text Document".
    • Leave the text document empty and label it "WgaLogon.dll". Press Enter (on your keyboard).
    • wgawanignoyeas.pngYou may get a warning from the above step that says, "If you change a file name extension, the file may become unusable. Are you sure you want to change it?". Click "Yes" on this warning.
  18. Be ready to complete the next two steps very quickly! Find"WgaTray.exe" in "System32" and delete it. You will then have 5 secondsto find "WgaTray.exe" in the Task Manager (the next step). NOTE: If you remove the files mentioned above while you are in "Safe Mode," step #8 is unnecessary.
  19. tskenproctb.pngImmediately open Task Manager. You can do this by pressing the Ctrl,Shift, and Esc keys simultaneously, pressing the Ctrl, Alt, and Deletekeys simultaneously, or right clicking the Taskbar and selecting "TaskManager". Click on the process tab and click end process when"WgaTray.exe" is selected. Note: If you take longer, do not panic! All that will happen is that "WgaTray.exe" will keep reapearing in theprocesses list (i.e. you won't be able to delete it as required). Toremove the notifications after this, return to system32. You will findtwo files:"WgaLogon.dll.bak" (the one you renamed) and an ApplicationExtension (0KB) called "WgaLogon.dll". Delete the ApplicationExtension, rename "WgaLogon.dll.bak" to "WgaLogon.dll" and repeat thesteps from the fifth one onwards (at a greater speed!!).
  20. Restart your computer once you have finished. All the notification messages should be gone.

This copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation. The product key found on this computer was not assigned by Microsoft.

It means your windows key is not genuine , in other words it is pirated. Microsoft usually assign windows key that is genuine under license agreement which means that you are using legal windows or validated windows.

You have to purchase a copy of windows in order to make your windows genuine.

If you have any other question arising in your mind, please do not hesitate to ask.

Kind Regards,

according to the statements which you have specified the computer says that the operating system you are using is not an original software and may be a pirated version.i can suggest you two things. if you have bought the operating system xp as an original one from a dealer contact the support of microsoft and sort your problem immediately. but if you have installed the operating system from a pirated version, enter a new volume license key and switch off windows update. you will be under risk if you are updating a pirated version of xp.thanks for using fixya!.please dont forget to rate my solution.

If you have the original CD you should be able to reinsert it into CD player and pass validation. If you don't have the CD, then you license key for your copy of Windows was tagged as invalid for some reason in their databases. You will have to contact microsoft.com to get it corrected.
