My dryer is getting power (light comes on when you push the start button), and sometimes when I push the start button it makes a buzz sound. Sounds like it's trying to start but will not turn over. I can turn the drum to one side by hand. Sometimes - it will turn over and work for a while, there is no ryme or reason when this happens. I replaced the power cord in the back and it worked fine last night for a load. This am, when I tried another, it's back to the same.
Sometimes when I hold the start button down it makes a light buzz sound (not the ''end run'' sound), and there is an electricial burning smell.

I have a Kenmore 80 series electric dryer. The light comes on when the door is open so I know it is getting power but dryer will not turn on. Is the push button not working or can I reset the dyer?
When this problem occurs are the small lights on very dim? If so I would turn off the power and remove the top off the dryer. Then re-seat the 4 ribbon cables on the display board. Alot of people replace the front panel or control boards when the problem really is the ribbon cables. If the LED's are not lit dim then you may need to replace one of the two boards.
Dryer door does not think it is closed. There is a sensor on the top of the door that is probably not making contact with the door. Trying pushing the top part of the door and holding it then press the start button.. if the unit starts running then you know what it is. I just had one of these dryers delivered today and had to find out about this by myself tonight!!
Sounds like the motor relay is not functioning. Sometimes the motor will work if the button is pushed but will stop when the button is released. This is caused by a loose wire at the motor or a bad motor relay.
