There are a few relatively simple solutions to fixing a faulty Blackberry rollerball/trackball.
Compressed Air
Spraying some compressed air on the ball and round the sides of the ball can sometimes loosen the compacted dirt & dust on the rolling mechanism.
You can pick up compressed air from your local hardware store.
WD40
Spray a tiny amount of WD40 on a cotton bud and rub it onto the rollerball. This can free up the mechanism and lubricate it.
Removing and Cleaning the Rollerball/Trackball
Using a small flathead screw driver gently prise the silver ring around the rollerball from the top (be extremely careful as the catches are made of plastic and can break easily)
The rollerball module should come out with easy
Using a clean paint brush, gently brush the inside of the Blackberry where the module came from
Using a toothbrush clean the rollerball module gently around the rollers on the underside and also clean the actual rollerball
When replacing the rollerball module it will only fit one way so don't worry about putting it in upside down
There are three plastic catches on the silver ring, there should be one at the bottom & two at the top. Line them up on the phone and press it back in place gently.
Replacing the rollerball/trackball
Sometimes the mechanism or the rollerball can be come damaged and cleaning will not solve the problem. In this case you can replace the rollerball by following the instructions above about cleaning and purchase a replacement rollerball from eBay or one of the other countless online stores that see Blackberry parts.
I would always recommend that you buy genuine Blackberry replacement parts as these are usually of a higher quality than copies.
The balls on the blackberry's get clogged up with finger oil, skin, and all sorts of grime I think. But I fixed mine by shutting the phone down and then rubbing hard against the roll ball in each direction and pushing each time until the clicker under the roll ball clicked. You could also try alcohol.
Try removing the silver cover around the scroll ball, and remove the ball. There should be a little white square underneath it. If there is no white square, but a red square, then it could be water damage. I had the same issue with mine.
Try cleaning the trackball. Use a q-tip dipped in IPA or rubbing alcohol and use it to rotate the ball around a few times. Try a few times to make sure it is clean.
Hi guys I have the solution. I think all your trackballs are stuck. If you cant move it, take the silver ring off with a knife, take off the trackball and put rubbing alcohol on it wth a Q - tip until it works. Can some1 help me? My problem is titled My blackberry pearl wont load up.
