Question about Samsung HLN5065W 50" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

No picture on Samsung HLN5065W

Our HLN5065 went out a couple of weeks ago; picture went dark with a pop, sound was fine. The center green light (lamp) flashes, and the set won't shut off, seems to be recycling itself, have to unplug it. Also, there is a high pitched humming. We ordered a replacement lamp, but same symptoms exist (sound ok, no picture, won't turn off, high pitched humming). Please help...

    Additional information by som_one:

After the set "recycles" a couple of times (turns itself off/on) it acts like its fuctioning, but no picture and all 3 lights blink. Should be a bulb with that symtom alone, but we tried to fix this with a replacement bulb.

Mine did the same thing tonight. Turned it on....then heard a pop, then picture went very dark. I could faintly see the picture but very dark. I unplugged all power to recycle and now mine does just like this persons. Sound is fine but no picture at all. I have pulled the lamp (bulb) and see fine pieces of grit inside the lamp itself. I'm assuming this is bad but can't confirm like a normal light bulb (filament is still attached). I looked up specs and found that the lamp should be a BP96-00224J (I think), but I actually have a BP96-00224C in the set. I had warranty covered issues with the picture within the 1st 9 mos of ownership (TV is less than 4 yrs old) and the tech replaced the "light engine and adjusted". Whatever that means. I hate to pay a tech to come out to change a light bulb. I'm thinking that I should order the part (curious which part # though), and give it a try. Does anyone know which part # is correct and want to weigh in with advice? I'd appreciate it. Here is my info:
    Model # HLN5065W
Model Code is HLN5065W1X/XAA (whatever that means)
    SER # 31DX300620M
    Manufactured March 2004

I have a 45" mistubishi that I bought in 1995. Not 1 service call, still running strong. Should've stuck with a proven manufacturer.

No Picture on Samsung HLN5065W problem: Same indications - picture went out, 3 lights blinking, had to unplug it.  Then recycling on for 1-2 minutes (1 light blinking) and then turns off and then on again and repeats.  Prior to this, I have had a loud color wheel in the past few weeks on three occasions.  From what I can gather its probably the wheel.  SEE link below for an excellent treatment of color wheel replacement & saving of $400-500 cost (I will be trying this if the bulb replacement does not remediate the problem).

My hln5065w 50" samsung tv started flashing where the bright partof the pictures were and progressively got worse. So I bought a new bulb for it and it worked a few days and started doing it again with the new bulb. It seemed like the bulb was getting hot so I opened it up where the bulb was and put a little fan I had and poited it at the bulb. It helped for months but now it's flashing real bad and nothing helps. Does anyone know what could be wrong with this thing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the old lamp blew and took out the ballast. I believe that you need a new ballast for your unit. The other possiblity would be a problem in the low voltage power supply but if the indicator lights are blinking the most likely problem is the ballast.

I have a tip at which explains the problem, how to repair it and where to get the parts. If you need more help let me know.

Thanks for using FixYa and the generous rating.

My 44in rca dlp picture is black and is making a humming sound

It sounds like to me theat the new lamp is faulty. If there is any pieces of glass in the lamp compartment, remove them so they will not travel and get wedged in places they should'nt be.
Hope this helps,

Samsung hln5065 picture issue

If all 3 lights are blinking on Samsung DLP it means your lamp is burnt out or has issues. The manual says replace the lamp when all 3 lights are blinking. If you can hear the arc from the ballast the lamp should light if the lamp is operational.A new lamp should solve your problem.

Samsung dlp

HLS4266W 43" dlp. In less than 1 yr whining grew worse, but did know what it was. Year passed with warranty and lamp went out. Replaced lamp. Worked for 3.5 hrs. Turned on next day and did not work. Got another lamp, but did not work. Figured out might be color wheel. Replaced it too. TV started up. Watched that night. Turned on next day, heard loud pop. Lamp never came on. Withdrew and reinstalled lamp a couple times to see if that worked. Did not. Currently, with new lamp and color wheel installed, lamp light blinks, but no lamp comes on. What now?
