Our state agency purchased 300 Nuvis for our police cars. I am the training officer and am being asked what benefit otaining the $70 upgrade would be. Is this urgent? Is is needed? Could we get a free upgrade to load into each one? Thanks, CPL Rick Kaufmann, MD Natural Resources Police.

It depends on how long you have had them.

I have heard that a buyer is entitled to a free upgrade if the unit is new and the upgrade is requested within a certain amount of time.

Apparently there the firmware in the unit records when the unit first obtains a satellite lock and that date is is used to determine how long the unit has been in operation. I'd check into it right away.

The problem is you have so many units and it takes about an hour to upgrade each one. So, its not going to be a quick process.

You need to see what map is already on the unit by selecting the tool icon, then system, then maps and then "map info".

The 2010 maps are already out. Newer maps means you unit is more up-to-date with current roads that have been added.

No it is not urgent but if you can get it for free, then you may wish to consider it.

Suspicious!!!! A chief of police not knowing it as a 9mm or stating manufacture? Just a bit odd.that you are asking very fundimental question when if you were a trained law enforcement officer you would have the answer and if you really had a problem your department armor would be your source for answers

How much money does a swat officer get paid

How Much Money Do SWAT Police Earn
Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams are comprised of specially trained police officers who are sent into high-risk situations. In most instances, the wages of SWAT team members are the same as salaries for regular police officers. However, police departments typically pay a monthly or annual pay differential to members of the SWAT team.

SWAT Officers SWAT team officers are skilled marksmen trained to shoot long range targets with pinpoint accuracy. Trained snipers are also tasked with detecting and neutralizing threats posed to political figures at conventions and special events. These professionals often accompany regular patrol officers during confrontations involving organized crime figures or suspected terrorists. Most SWAT police are taught crowd control techniques to be used during riots or civil unrest. SWAT teams usually include negotiators who are tasked with resolving situations.
Base Salary According to a 2011 report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, police officers, including SWAT team members, have an average base salary of $56,260 a year. Police officers in New Jersey are the highest paid in the nation with average salaries of $81,970. Among metropolitan areas, the highest wages are paid to police officers in the Los Angeles, Glendale and Long Beach area of California. These officers earn an average annual salary of $85,620.

Police Departments Most police officers work for state and local law enforcement agencies. The budgets and pay structures of police departments vary, as do the payments made to SWAT team members. In Brownsville, Texas, SWAT team members receive a flat annual fee of $650 in addition to their base salaries. In Albuquerque, N.M., SWAT officers receive a $50 monthly payment that amounts to $600 a year in additional pay. In Riverside, Calif., full-time SWAT officers receive an additional payment that is equal to 3 percent of their base salaries.
Additional Pay Members of the SWAT team can potentially generate extra income by taking on additional responsibilities. In Round Rock, Texas and in Albuquerque, negotiators receive an annual payment of $600. Many SWAT team members provide firearms training to other officers, and a police officer in Round Rock can earn an additional $2,400, per year for working as a trainer. SWAT officers can further boost their pay if they are bilingual, are trained to defuse, or agree to work night shifts or special assignments.

Does dialing 112 on a cell phone help when getting pulled over by an unmarked car?

I have heard stories of people in Australia telling police via the mobile the rego number and being informed that it is a police car. You may be able to ask to see badge number before winding down your window. Also you may be able to ask for the rank, name and police station they belong to depending on the laws in your state and country. see http://forums.officer.com/t173894/
http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/fakecop.asp
The best one I heard was a fake unmarked police car tried to pull over a car but the car it tried to pull over was an off duty police woman and identified herself as a police office and the unmarked race speed off. Only to be caught by police. (was in the news)

Find out who is responsible for investigating and enforcing the anti-cruelty codes in your town, county and/or state. These people typically work for your local humane organization, animal control agency, taxpayer-funded animal shelter or police precinct.
If you run into trouble finding the correct agency to contact, you should call or visit your local police department and ask for their help in enforcing the law. If your local police department is unable to assist, ask your local shelter or animal control agency for advice. To find contact information for your local shelter, visit the ASPCA's searchable database of nearly 5,000 organizations. If you have questions about reporting animal cruelty, you can find solutions here.
