For some reason my GV-D1000 can't be recognized by either computer I possess. Both are custom made, one's been recently reformatted, and both equipped with firewire cards. At first my main computer couldn't read anything connected to the firewire slot, but now it can read everything except for my mini dv vcr. Could someone help me understand whether this is a hardware problem on my recorder or perhaps a setting is incorrect. I don't think there is a driver specifically for this problem but I'm pretty computer ignorant. Also keep in mind my dv recorder used to work fine on my older computer, but since I reformatted it doesn't, Please help.
Launch video editing software...it should be able to see your deck. none of my three macs "recognize" the deck, but finalcut pro sees and can control the deck once it is connected and turned on

The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

I have the same problem. I have taken it apart and see that the connections from the firewire get all the way to the circuit board with a continuity checker. so there is something on the board that is not connecting.
There is one setting in the menu where you can turn on/off the DV out.
curious also.
