Question about Dell Latitude C610 Notebook

2 Answers

Dell Latitude CPi has no power and lights will not come on when connected.

I recently bought this laptop from someone I knew hoping to find out what was wrong with it. She said that the unit was working fine and then one day it just went off and has never booted back up. I have had it connected to the power supply but none of the lights on the laptop come on. I have even replaced the battery and still nothing. Any ideas on what the problem may be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where is the fuse located? I will try anything once. Thanks!

  • TamTaz Nov 28, 2007

I will call a friend who has a CPx and see if the power adapter will work with this one. Will also check out the fuse.

  • TamTaz Nov 28, 2007

We tested the battery and power supply on a Latitude CPx and both worked fine on the other laptop so I can rule those out as a possible problem. Anything other than the fuse and cpu that I should try that you all can recommend?

ok guys...I have removed the cover from the laptop. Believe me, this ain't my first rodeo. Figure of speech! However....I can not seem to locate the fuse and am unable to find it's location in the service manual. Any ideas? Oh yeah....Sean....I am from Texas, USA.

Hi Tamtaz. Have you tried the fuse in your plug for the power lead. The power adapter may also be gone or the lead may be split. It seems like a power problem. But maybe you have tried this already. You have a few serious problems if this isn't the problem. Could you try someone else's power adapter.

I'm not sure what part of the world you are but I am writing from Ireland. Do you have a 2 pin plug or a three pin plug. I mean the plug tha goes into the wall socket.

We have a three pin plug and there is a fuse in the plug itself. It is a 13 am fuse you may not have the same type of plug in that case it could be power adapter itself.

I must tell you opening the Laptop is not a good idea. Only very qualified people should open a laptop. You have to be careful if you open a laptop up. to be truthful do not open the laptop it is only for professionals.

make sure you have the correct power adapter for the laptop or you could cause serious damage to the laptop, preferablly a laptop the same as your own.

If you bought a new battery and connect the powercable and still nothing happens it's usually a problem with a fuse. If not a fuse it's usually the cpu. If the problem is with the vga the lights usually turn on. Difficult problem. This depends on how fare you want to go and able to spent.

good luck

I have found a service manual. on this link.

    http://pdftown.com/Dell-Latitude-CPi-A-S...

    Let me check it out.

  • goovy75 Nov 28, 2007

The manual will tell you how to take your laptop apart. The fuse you can recognize by mini bottles of glas with a wire in it. You can also check the cmos battery if it's fit good in it's position and test it with a battery tester. I advise you to take it apart carefully or do it by a electrician. I don't have experience with opening laptops of this model so i can;t tell you to much about it. Maybe you see alot of black burnt spots. Then you also know what your problem is. Last time i had one with a broken cpu-fan all black. I changed the cpu and fun and it worked.

    Good luck.

usually a new battery have some power so i suggest you already ruled that out.

SOURCE: Dell latitude Cpi LCD screen Backlighting?

What do you mean exactly?

To increase or decrease the backlight brightness use Fn-key(next to left Ctrl-key) with up and down arrows.

There is not some key-combination to turn off the screen, you can make your computer turn it off after some time (if you're using XP this can be done in control panel->Power options), or just close the lid :)

My Dell CPi D266XT will not power up. The light on the power cord is flashing green. When I push the power button nothing happens. None of the lights flicker like it's even trying to come on.

Hi,

It is possible that the other end of your power adaptor is defective or just loose. Tighten it securely and try to test if it is emitting voltages by using a multi-tester.

It can also be that there is a problem with the connection form your power adaptor going to the main board of your laptop.

This is a very technical problem so I suggest you let a laptop technician look at it.

Hope it helps.

Thanks!

Need to delete bios password on a dell latitude cpi r400gt

I have just done this. One needs to dismantle the laptop first. Solder a push button switch with extended wires across pins 4&5 of the serial eeprom 24c02. Then reconnect the screen, keyboard & a/c power pack. with a tooth pick press power on switch whilst holding push button on. When the factory mode screen comes on release the push button. Next go to bios setup F2 and ALT-p to the password page. Now enter your new password this will overwrite the old pass word. My approach is slightly different to this following method as it is les likely to brick the laptop.

Dell Latitude will not turn on.

this time your DELL LATITUDE is hang-up, why because the motherboard find some devices connected which are no longer exist...
Here's what you do for now, remove the jumper switch to reset the cmos setting to clear and back to normal, you can see jumper very near to the cmos battery...
if the problems exist again tell me how many numbers of beeps.. heres my email: stealthbutiki@yahoo.com.ph...

DELL Latitude CPi A Series

Something to try would be to re-seat the ram and harddrive.

just take them out and then put them back in and try again. I would try with the battery out and just the ac power plugged in.

Being that it was bought off eBay, realistically it probably got banged around a little bit. Sometimes if one of the devices are not making a real good contact it can cause these problems. I have also seen bad batteries cause this problem.

This is not necessarily going to fix your problem, but it has occasionally worked for me in the past and it is a very quick and free thing to try.
