My clothes never have a good smell or at best any smell recently. I also never see the water stay in the washing and it suds up like it used to. It appears that when the water is being put in, it is going right out through the front

Try this. Run a load of a few towels with no soap, no bleach, no fabric softeners. Set wash water temp to hot. After hot water enters and begins to wash, stop the washer and open the door. Pour in one cup of vinegar (white is fine.) Run the entire wash cycle.

-Buy a supply of High Efficiency Washing detergent (marked "HE") and do not over fill the detergent cup (use a little less than the directions say, never more.)

-Buy a name brand supply of fabric softener with a scent you enjoy and can recognize.

Run the next weeks loads of wash (no need to use Hot water any more) and report back here with how things are smelling. OK?

test your water alkaline and acid content during last rinse cycle, this usually causes stinking smell to your clothes. water should have a pH 7 to come out neutral.

Clothes Have a sour smell when dried

The moldy odor in this front loading washer (and most other front loaders, too) and the clothes washed in ti is due to the way the washer are built. There's almost always some water that doesn't get pumped out all the way. The water along with detergent residue left inside the machine is the perfect combination for mold growth between wash days.

First stop feeding mold. Stop using "regular" detergent in it. By regular, I mean anything that isn't an "HE" type. You've got to use the types designated as "HE" (High Efficiency). They suds up a lot less, and due to the significantly less water our front loaders use, actually leave less soap residue (that is a large source of the mold and musty smell) behind the tub of front loading machines. I use only about 1/2 of the HE detergent recommended on the bottle and get very good results.

Second, kill off existing mold. Run a clothes-less wash consisting of bleach and HOT water only 1 X week. This should be the last load run whenever the machine will be idle for a couple days or more.

Third, always wipe dry the inside of the tub, detergent & softener dispensing areas, the gasket around the door - particularly the bottom. Again, this is best after the last load is complete.

Fourth, leave all doors open or slightly ajar to allow for air circulation.

Some products that are designed to rid odors from your washer.

Finally, to remove the existing mold smell from the machine, one or two initial treatments (followed by regular treatments) of a product called "Affresh" (or equal) as directed. Some people have good luck with vinegar, too.

I hope this helps and good luck! Please rate my reply - thank you.

My Duet washer stinks so much. The wash does not come out smelling good. It is clean but it doesn't smell good. I do use those cleaning tablets but it still stinks. It has over-suds many times where...

I have found that using a l/4scoop of oxi cleaner any brand will do along with my regular wash detergent helps keep the odor under control . I leave my door open to the washer when not in use. Occasionally I will clean under the gasket with a mild cleaner. Remember the front loaders use less water and therefor less detergent. Good luck.

Smelly washer

The disgusting smell is from using too much detergent, using softener or from using only cold water for washing.

The area of buildup is just above the normal waterline where suds and soiled water splash up and don't get rinsed out. To clean this area: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ua6OJPn0-fU

The added bulk of the laundry will raise the water level to include the "splash area" intermittent pausing to soak is also a good tip in extreme cases.

LG WM2496HSM

Take a few of your washed towels and start washing them again with no soap or fabric softner. After the washer tumbles a couple minutes pause the machine. You should see no suds at all. I'll bet you see some suds. Suds now indicates there is soap residue in the machine and / or the fabrics. The soap residue in the fabrics is what is causing most of the odor and the poor cleaning. The problem is too much soap and / or fabric softner. Remember, the old top load washer you had before used about 40 to 45 gallons of water for an extra large load. Your LG uses about 12. First thing to do is clean the washer using a package (three tablets) of "Ah Fresh" washer cleaner, using the tub clean cycle if your model has it, or if it does not have that cycle, use the hottest, longest cycle, + stain setting option. Second, wash all the clothes again without using soap or fabric softener. Third, from now on, use a maximum of a tablespoon of HE (even less if it is 2x concentrated) soap and one teaspoon of fabric softener. Hint: If you rinse well before you towel off your towels are only wetted with clean water. They are not dirty. If you wash them, try washing with no soap.

Whirlpool duet washer

Increasing the water is not possible and would not help anyway. The odor is from bacteria. To kill the bacteria run a load without clothes on the HOT wash setting and add a cup of bleach to the soap dispenser. In the future to prevent it from returning use the hottest water allowed by the clothing care tag and use bleach whenever possible. If you don't like to use bleach or hot water you may need to repeat the cleaning once a month. Also make sure you are using a HE detergent. Non HE detergent can suds up and the suds may not rinse out with the water and can create an odor.

GE Front Loading Washing Machine seems to be holding water....

The high speed spin of a front load washer should normally do a good job of getting squeezing out the water but if there is an oversudsing condition that makes it hard for the drain pump to operate then the suds and water will just stay there. First make sure there is no actual clog in the drain line then run a load with no soap or detergent and see what happens. It's always better to use a low suds detergent with this type of machine

Leaking from the front of washer and moldy odor.

you need to replace the front boot what a pain you may need a tech to do this also you need to keep door open and wipe the boot with a towel after each use this is a common problem with front loaders.I do warranty work and run across this problem alot
before you replace boot turn on washer with nothing in it and let it cycle if you see suds in water you are using to much soap and this will cause the machine to over fill check this first
