Re: file error

Hey juz12!
Well first, some of the songs that you put in, well...Sony Co. cannot transfer directly, so you would have to use their Sonicstage program, aka the converting button.
Like most Sony mp3 players, you need to use Sonicstage to put songs in the mp3 player.

For the Sony NW-E405, simply go to the Transfer menu at the top right of the program, (along where the My Library button is) and select the song. In the middle of the screen should be arrows along with a suitcase looking button. Click the luggage button and a screen should pop out. It should have two choices, a Standard Transfer Mode and a Specified bit rate transfer mode. Click the Specified one and select either the 105kbps (ATRAC 3) or the 132kbps (ATRAC 3) for great sound quality and small memory usage. The others are too big or too bad for sound quality. It should now work.

Now the mp3 player should be able to read it, since it is now in ATRAC 3 version, not the mp3 version.

Reformatted error

Do your files open when you hook it up to the USB in your computer? If so copy and save them there then try reformatting the player's drive.
If you can't copy the files to your computer, go to, (click on "proceed to site") and pick a file recovery app. Use that to recover your music files to your computer, then try reformatting your mp3 player. If it reformats and works OK you're lucky --if not at least you will have copied your music.

"file system error".

What you need to do is back up all files on your mp3 player to your computer. Then go to the manufacture's website and download the latest firmware and reload it to your player. This will reformat your player so make sure you have backup all music, photos, videos, etc.. first

Can you play at least one music from your mp3 player? If yes, the file that you're trying to play when this message appears may be corrupted. Try having another copy of the music that you want to play on your mp3 player. If you can't play any music that you transferred, possible causes could be :

1. Your mp3 player was reformatted to another file system that is unrecognized by the mp3 player.

2. The flash memory of your mp3 player was bad
3. The songs that you're trying to transfer is not known by the player ( file types other than .mp3)

Disk Error Message

the best thing to do is RE format the disc. i am currently having the same problem , witch i am tired of fixing them. if the item is from ebay : hong kong , i suggest you tell the buyer and complain. people will do anything for good feedback. saw formatting it will work. but you'll have the same problem in the future. either you copy all your music files to a folder. or buy one from Argos , woolworths etc etc...

File error

With your mp3 player not playing any music, press and hold Search/Menu until the menu comes up (1-2 seconds). Scroll to the last chioce, which is Advanced Menu. Press your Play button to select it, select Format, select OK, and your mp3 player will be formatted. This WILL erase all of the music that you have on there, but reload it all with SonicStage, and you should be good to go.
