Re: sansa e250 firmware problem

Verify that the device DOES NOT say RHAPSODY on the back or E2**R. This would indicate the rhapsody version, whereas the firmware is totally different.

If it is simply a E200, try this;

Run the recovery tool from the SanDisk website. Make sure you select "format" when prompted.

You need to put the device into "recovery mode" before you run the tool.

- Turn the device off (hold power for 20 seconds)
- Slide the hold switch into "hold" position.
- Press and hold the "record" button while connecting it to your computer. Keep holding the "record" button until you see the "new hardware found" on your computer.

Then run the recovery tool. Select format when prompted.

Best of Luck.

Load Main Image Failed & Refresh Database Freezes

*** Warming : Dont try this if you dont know what your doing or if you dont know what your main problem is with the player. All the steps in this guide are collected from various sites i would not name them ( if not for you guys this guide will not be possible ) . I suggest if you dont know what you are doing is to contact sandisk technical support. ***

This is for Sansa E200 Series ( Normal and Rhapsody Model ) mp3 player with Version 1 devices. I see that many of you are experiencing this error on your players and i decided to create this guide that worked for me and for my friends players after contacting the nice guys from the sandisk technical support.

This is for Load Main Image Failed Problems.
Note : This is caused by an incorrect firmware version was loaded on the player or a bad copy of firmware files in the player.

I . For Normal Mp3 Players which dont have a Rhapsody Channel.

1. Perform Recovery mode on the player ( Enable Hold Switch + Press Record Button + Power Button ) , when it says welcome to recovery mode connect the player to the computer.

2. Open the 16MB Format which is the player in your My Computer. Then check open the Version.txt. This file will tell you what is the firmware of the player. Now you will have there,
    * .12A = Older Version firmware got to 2B
    * .15A = Also an older version of firmware go to 2B
    * .18A = Latest version of firmware. got to 2C

2B .If you have an older version of firmware downloading and updating the firwmare of player to the latest one usually resolves this problem. If not applying this file on the 16MB Format will have a greater chance of fixing the problem.

This file will be upgrading the firmware of you player to the latest one.

2C. Download and install this file on your computer and then run the file.

This file will be downgrading the firwmare to an older version which is .12A

II. Load Main Image failed for Rhapsody Model mp3 Player.

1. Perform recovery mode on the player. Then connect the player to the computer.

2. 16MB Format should be detected in your My Computer. Download and apply this file in the .16MB Format.

This will correctly reinstall the correct firmware for the player.

For Players Experiencing Refresh Database on thier device. This would apply on both Rhapsody and Normal Model mp3 player.

1. Perform recovery mode on the device. Then connect to your computer.
2. The 16MB format would be recognize on the My Computer window. Download and apply this file into the 16MB Format.

If the above link dont work just create a file name sansa.fmt take the extion of the file should be FMT. To check the file extension right-click on the file and choose properties.

=== If all else fails contact sandisk technical support.====
Thanks to crimsontide, cyber and to my special friend johnnyten for lending my your sandisk player. :D

Sansa E250 model version

When you go to the Sandisk website, look for the firmware under the Support --> Downloads section. The firmware you need is listed under Sansa e200 series - the Sandisk website is one of the only ones that I know about that gives a generic series number more often than an exact model number.

Sansa E250 (only blue ring lighting)

Go ahead and do this, in case the DB is corrupted:
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out:

SanDisk 2GB Sansa e250 doesn't turn on

Ok. I'm Mexican and my English is not so well but I have an solution that I'll like to share.

You have to download this file
and unzip in the Desk of windows . It's name is "pp5022.mi4"

Open the Notepad program and create a file whit name "sansa.fmt". IMPORTANT Dont save it like "sansa.txt" or "sansa.fmt.txt"
(We don't have to put anything in the notepad file, live it blank) and saved in the windows Desk same as "pp5022.mi4" file.
If you don't know where is notepad program go to "star" then "programs" then "accessories" and you'll find it there.

First step be sure that your sansa is off
then put the lock switch in the position orange (Sansa Locked)
Then press the Microphone bottom and keep holding, at the same press the menu bottom and keep holding too at the same time.
Wait until you are in the Recovery Mode.
Then conect your sansa to the computer.
And it's gonna appear a new window whit a "version.txt" file.
Take the 2 files that you created in the Desk and drag and drop to the sansa. Then unplug your sansa to the pc.
Now turn on the sansa but Unlocked before.
And I hope that your problem have been gone.

Sansa e250

You will need to do a firmware update format on the player.
Tech support at sandisk can send you the file you need via email, they do every day.
If you have the file, then put the player in recovery mode and drag the file to the 16MB icon in My Computer

Sanse e200 freezing up for no reason!!!

Hi. It seems like your player decided to throw a hissy fit by deciding to experience internal system errors. Best that you reset the firmware. Here's how: Switch your Sansa E250 to its Recovery Mode: 1. Make sure the player is powered off 2. Enable the "Hold" switch (located on the top of the player). You would know it's enabled when you see the "orange-colored" surface 3. Press the "Record" button. Make sure you keep it pressed while pressing on the "Menu" button. 4. keep your fingers pressed on these 2 buttons until the E250 LCD screen displays "Welcome to Recovery Mode" 5. Connect your E250 to your computer. (Just a reminder: The minimum Operating System requirements for a Sansa E200 player is Windows XP and above) 6. Double-click on "My Computer" and you would see your Sansa E250 appear as a "16 MB" drive. Note: If you do not see that "16 MB" drive/partition, please repeat steps 1-6. Next, Apply the firmware for the E250 (your player should be connected to your PC at this time): Step 1: Use this link to download the firmware for your Sansa E250 (for better results, please save this file on your "Desktop": Step 2: Double left-click on the downloaded file, and follow the on-screen prompts. The file will automatically re-flash your player and format it as well, thereby clearing all possible file/system corruptions that may have occurred. Step 3: When the process is complete, unplug your E250 from your computer, and please make sure you disable the "Hold" switch Step 4: Power up your E250 and 90-99% of the time, it would boot up successfully. Step 5: Enjoy using your Sansa E250, just like I do. (I love this player)
