Normaly I can mow my whole lawn and then some on a tank of fuel....now I can't finish it without refueling. It sputters as it is running...like it will quit at any moment...but it doesn't til it runs out of fuel.

Thanks, I will start with the air filter....think it is the original...can only take so much cleaning.

Usually with Briggs they have very basic carbs. and there is usually no adjustment, how do you know it is getting to much fuel, and how exactly is it running rough?

Ok, check the air filter, it could be clogged. A clogged air filter won't allow a proper air-gas mixture. Then check the carb. make sure that it is clean, or if anything doesn't look right. You might have to get another carb. After that check the intake it could be clogged but this time a clogged intake means that there isn't enough fuel getting to the combustion chamer.

One year old bolens push mower, 550 series B&S

How is your compression? If it is low, your piston rings and/or the cylinder walls could be damaged and pulling oil up to the combustion chamber, which will burn oil and foul the plug. If you overfill the oil you could possibly get this also. When was the last time that you changed the oil and/or put oil in it? Do you currently have proper oil level?

Engine on powerwasher starts but quits running after approx 10 seconds. Engine oil changed, oil is full & tried choke in various positions. Also has fresh fuel in tank. What else can I do

try cleaning the carb that ethanol plays havoc on these small engines if it is not a premix oil and gas unit add a little 2 cycle engine oil to the gas will keep the carbon builup to a minimum not to much it will gunk up your spark plug take the carb apart and clean it with carb cleaner or deisellet dry check your spark plug make sure it is clean and ok that is where I would start

I have a Craftsman Push Rear Bag Lawn Mower w/ High Wheel it's a 6.50 Briggs & Stratton Engine. I changed the oil by turning over the lawn mower and draining the oil from the dip stick hole. I also...

Your mower should definitely have an air filter whether it is paper or foam, and you should drain the oil from the bottom, not turning it over. turning it over can get oil in places where it shouldn't be and make it smoke or not run at all. It may need carburetor cleaning and spark plug cleaning or replacement, or the flywheel key may be sheared if it runs rough

I have a 22" bolens push mower with a 5.0 hp Briggs and Stratton engine. Despite a clean air filter, clean oil and good spark plug, the mower would only operate at low idle today (2 years old). I...

Speed Control out of adjustment if one on mower. You probably bound up the linkage when you removed the engine cover. If linkage is not damaged make sure it has free and clear movement. Your mower carb probably flooded the engine, pull spark plug and turm engine over a few times, ckeck spark plug to see it is not wet from gas. Hope this helps !

4 cycle, 5hp briggs and stratton, lawn mower engine fails to start, no spark at the plug model 130202, N type magneto (i believe)

Try taking off the engine shroud and cleaning the magnets on the fly wheel. Also clean the two little prongs on the magneto. Also clean the end of the spark plug wire. I use fine sand paper or emery cloth.

Good luck and let me know if this helps.

Have Bolens series 080 22" mower w/Briggs & Stratton engine- starts but always quits after 2 minutes- changed oil, spark plug, and cleaned air filter.

When you take off the carburetor initially, you should change the gasket if it tears or just old looking, your problem is in the carburetor, probably. Take it apart remembering where the parts go. There are some diaphragms or gaskets and screens on some, tiny jets and such that are inside the little "bulb" or bowl, that can usually be taken off with a 10mm wrench. They also have little fiber gaskets and a bowl gasket or o-ring that must be in great condition with no trash. Clean off with starter fluid or carburetor cleaner.
