Calculator won't turn off...

Hi. I have noticed two major problems with my TI-89 calculator. First, it won't let me go to the page where all of the apps are shown. I'm only able to stay in the home screen and type in problems or graph equations with F6-F8. Also, my calculator won't turn off for a significant amount of time. It will turn off temporarily, but always comes back on after a second. Any help you could give me would be great. Thank you.

Other than internal workings I'd try to connect it to the computer using ti connect device explorer and see what I have there. If you have a lot of programs storied you might want to free up some memory too. be careful to delete unprotected memory first. you can try reseting and reinstalling just make sure you know exactly what the programs do (no games). I really need more info w/ what on the calculator first. But, I think your using to much memory.

Hi, My TI 89 calculator just stopped working. I can't turn it on; I changed battery to brand new ones, but still dead. What can I do?

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and hold the diamond key, and press and hold the + key for a couple of seconds to see whether the screen darkens.

If this doesn't do it, please reply to this post and we can try something else.

Hi, I recently purchased a ti 89 calculator from a friend and I am having the following problem: The calculator will not evaluate trig functions. For example, if I type Sin(Pie/4) and hit enter, the...

The calculator is set up to produce exact results. If you want the expression to be evaluated put a decimal mark at the end of the 4.
to making 4 a floating point number instead of integer.
Alternatively, press the [MODE] key. Scroll down through the pages of options until you reach the line labeled Exact/Approx. When cursor is on that line, use the right arrow key to open the menu. Select [3:Approximate]. Press [ENTER] to save.

When I turn the switch on, ti-89 titanium does not turn on.

If you connect calculator to computer using Ti connect device explorer you might be able to see what files are on the calculator. I don't know if you downloaded from the web but, 3rd party programs and shells tent to miss up the calculator. This would able you to delete out possible problems which could be re installed later.

I accidentally resetted my ti-89 titanium

Hello,
Use the TIConnect software to connect the calculator to the computer. Then in the TIconnect main window you can drag and drop the applications you downloaded from education.ti.com. They will be transferred to the calculator.
I cannot understand why you cannot graph normally since the graphing is not an application, it is part of the OS.
While you are connected to the Internet and to the calculator, you may want to reinstall the OS directly from education.ti.com to your calculator
Hope it helps.

Dec to hex conversion

Not sure if TI-89 mode keys are the same, but here's the solution for that calculator:
1. Hit the mode key
2. Hit F3 to get tot Exact/Approx (might be different for 89T).
3. Set it to Exact.
4. Take a look at T-89 manual pages 327, 328, 329.
Nice of TI to NOT include that in the manual, huh?

Ti-89 Doesn't Turn OFF!!

1) Update the OS from the TI site.
2) check if button is sticking(not necessarily just the plastic button, but what it hits on the inside... you can clean the contacts on the inside of the calc with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol.)

I don't have much experience with this specific calculator but those are my best bets.

good luck
