Question about Kodak EasyShare P850 Digital Camera

P850 shuts itself off for no reason

I have had my P850 for about a year, and within the last few months, it has gone to where when I turn the camera on, it will stay on without a problem, if I leave it alone. If I try and zoom, the camera will shut itself off, and then turn itself back on again immediately. It does the same thing if I try and take a picture as well, I can snap the shot, sometimes, then it turns itself off, and back on again. This camera has never been dropped, or exposed to rain or any other harsh weather, it just started acting strangely. Anyone else have this problem, or know a solution to fixing this?

Same here. I turn it on, it works for a few seconds, then you try to zoom/take a photo/change a setting and BINK----it's gone. The it powers right back up again. I hate this camera because it takes beautiful photos, but it is really flaky!

Same here. I'm about to throw it in the garbage, since it shut downs way to often without reason. I missed a lot of disney character pictures during my vacations because of this.
I saw somewhere it might be related to the card and we need to re-format, but I'm experiencing the issue with all my cards.

Try using a liquid contact cleaner. I read about this fix on another site, worked great for me.
A product called DeoxIT in the U.S. is what was suggested, I am in Canada and can't get that here so I picked up a product from a company called NexxTech. Just a liquid contact cleaner.
Take out the battery of the camera. Put a few small drops of the contact cleaner on the power button and let it drip down into the switch. Rotate the on/off switch back and forth 5-10 times, put the battery back in and Voila! Fixed!
No more random on/off irritations, camera works just like it did before the problem arose a few weeks ago.
It worked great for me.
Good Luck!

Turns off itself

Please check the batteries and the battery contacts. Also the contact points in the camera. Most digital cameras will shut themselves down, when the battery voltage becomes to low. Just to protect the camera and the memory. If it tries to access the memory, while the voltage is to low, it could damage the pictures already taken.
Please also check if there is not any obstruction for the lens. So it can come out of the body freely.

The time and date setting deeps erasing itself everytime my camera is turned off Cannon A480

This model isn't all that old but I suspect the internal "button" type watch battery has gone dead. This little battery is what keeps the date/time going when the camera is shut off and "normally" last upwards to five years from date of manufacture not date of purchase.
