Transmission is not shifting in 1 or 2nd only. park is good, reverse good, neutral good, motor is not hot, fluid smell and looks good

when your fluid starts to turn dark and you'll smell the fluid, you will know if it's burnt, this happens when the bands gets loose and out of adjustment,as your coming to a stop with your foot off the accelerator pedal and the vehicle starts to slow down the band will help the transmission to slow as well as the vehicle, but if the bands are loose and not tight enough, your clutch's will try to slow the vehicle, when this happens the clutch's will not hold and start to slip, and this will burn the clutch's as well as the fluid, after this keeps happening the clutch's will start to slip when you start to take off from a stop, and will burn the clutch's even more, now your in need of a transmission rebuilt,so when you notice the fluid starting to smell and turn from red to dark red or black, the best thing to do is take it to a transmission shop and have the fluid and filter replaced, and have them adjust the bands,if you try this at home the fluid change should not be a problem but the band adjustment is a different story,if you don't follow step by step and tighten the band's too tight you can break the band's and that will make a for sure thing that you will need a rebuild,so just because the fluid gets burnt doesn't mean you need a rebuild unless you have driven it to long.

My Kenmore 80 series dryer seems to operate normally, except for a horrible "burnt chemical" smell in the dryed clothes. It almost smells like the gas is not exhausting correctly. Could it be the...

A lot of time a chemical smell is the result of blown capacity where the electrolitic is leaking out. Large caps are used in the moter start circuit and are usually located close to the motor. After awhile there will be an impact on the motor starting and the performance of your machine.

If it is the belt slipping you would get a burnt oil smell. If it was the blower motor or the drive motor it would be more of an electrical smell - burnt plastic type.

Clutch slips more than it should. 1982 honda goldwing feels like motor is misfireing

If the motor seems like it is idling roughly/misfiring try putting on a set of new spark plug caps on. You can purchase NGK brand for about $5 each ($20). I drove my first used GL1000 home from the dealership and was regretting the purchase it was running so terribly. I had the spark plug caps in my pocket on the way home. I changed the caps in the driveway and could not believe the difference. It was a completely different motorcycle. The resisters in the caps often burn out. If you check the caps with a voltage meter they should read 5000 OHMS. Anything higher or lower replace the cap.
It is possible to replace the clutch plates with the motor in the frame. The clearance is very tight. First, check that the clutch cable is not binding. This can cause the clutch to slip each shift and it is a lot easier to replace. Next smell the oil to see if there are burnt clutch plates. It may be easier to try replacing just the clutch springs. If they are below 1.35 inches (34.2 mm) they are below tolerance and need to be replaced. New tolerance is 1.4 inches (35.5 mm).Use only OEM Honda springs. If you inspect the clutch plates and they are warped, scored, or burnt replace the whole set with OEM Honda parts. Replace the cable first, then the springs, then the plates.

Rpm starts reving high & then transmition on highway slips only allowing the automatic transmition to drive at 30 mps

the bad new is that the transmission has failed....the high revving is due to the clutches slipping (yes, auto transmission have clutches, about 3-4 of them wet), as the material wears on them they start to slip.

i bet if you checked the transmission oil, it would smell burnt and be dark brown, it should be red and sweet smelling.....no cheap way around this unfortunatley.....sorry

When gasing the engine tranny slips

If you have a manual transmission it is time to replace your clutch. If you have an automatic transmission it is time for a transmission rebuilt. You can have your auto trans fluid and filter changed and this might help, but I doubt it. There is very little you can do for a slipping clutch in a manual tranny except replace the clutch. If you have a manual tranny with a clutch that is manual adjusted then the cluth may be out of adjustment, but I doubt you have a manually adjusted clutch it is more then likely hydralic.

All gears from 1 to 5 are slipping. each gear

does the clutch lever release "sharply" and snap back after engagement? then lean bike over drain about a quart of oil, take off access cover to clutch and check to see if you have any broken clutch springs. if thats looks o.k. you"ll probably need new clutch plates. a real quick check when you ride the bike smell the oil, does it smell burnt? if it does, the plates are probably no good.

Engine revs and i am only at 35 miles per hour. before this the engine was revving with loss of some power at pedal.

is this car automatic transmissiom or standard,if auto does the transmission fluid look brown and smell burnt, fluid should be red,if it is brown and smells burnt, likely a transmission failure,if car has a standard transmission it sounds like clutch could be slipping,if its a hydraulic actuated clutch, there could be a problem with hydraulics hanging up or the clutch itself is worn out

TRANSMISSON PROBLEMS

if its manual sounds like your clutch could be slipping does car smell of burt clutch?
check cluth adjustment
may need new clutch
do stall test with hand brake on, foot (heel-toe) on brake and accel pedal to about 2000rpm then let out clutch and car should stall if engine revs go down and engine still runs but you can rev causing slip and you will now smell what slipping burnt clutch is replace it.

if its auto check trans oil level and what does it look like red-good
darker red to black-bad often smells burnt also possibly new trans required.
