HP had problems with nVidia graphis chips and they have etended warranty certain models, check here, you might be still covered.
But if's not nVidia powered laptop, then you can remove memory chips (underr laptop in the middle), power on and if you hear beeps, then your ram is faulty, but if nothing chages, then its a faulty motherboard.
SOUNDS LIKE YOURE VIDEO CARD IS UNSEATED AS YOU DONT EVEN GET AN ERROR ON SCREEN TRY REMOVE AND REFIT IF YOU HAVE ONBOARD VGA REMOVE VIDEO CARD TO SEE IF IT WILL BOOT IF THIS DOESNT WORK REMOVE CMOS BATTERY AND TRY AGAIN.

same problem. I was told the motherboard is gone and have to replace it. The problem is that is very expensive:250$. It is ridiculous. I heard a lot of Pavilions have this problem.
