Most routers only have Ethernet connectors, so you should connect the cable modem to the router with an Ethernet cable. Generally, it goes into a port labeled WAN or Internet.

How to plug a WNR1000 Wireless Router into a Hughes net HN7000S modem

It should connect with an Ethernet cable. Looks like a phone cable but is twice as wide with 8 pins instead of 4. Plug one end into the modem's Ethernet output port and plug the other end into the router's single WAN/Internet input port.

I recently moved from Cable ISP to DSL ISP service. For the DSL service, I was asked to configure my Router to use PPPoE with Dynamic IP addressing. I also provided the router with my username and password...

The reason you have no internet is because the router is specifically for cable. your description contains errors what i think you mean is that you have gone from cable dsl to an adsl, correct me if i am wrong. Basically your modem connected to your router via an ethernet cable and then the router fed the wireless signal to your wireless devices or via ethernet through the 4 ports in the back. With adsl you have a feed from your phone line to an adsl modem so the only way for you to get the dsl router working is to have two ethernet leads connecting to your pc, one from the modem to the pc and one from the pc to the router. You would also need to setup internet sharing on the pc thats connected to both devices.

Either do it that way or buy an adsl router

Cable modem internet works when directly plugged into desktop, but when run through the router, no connectivity

Most cable Internet Service Providers (ISP) use a Media Access Control (MAC) Authentication to establish Internet connections for end-users. A MAC address is a unique 48-bit (6-byte) integer that is attached to an Ethernet NIC for each computer. To set-up your Linksys router to a Cable ISP, you have to do MAC Cloning. MAC Cloning is a procedure which enables a router to copy the MAC address of the PC that's registered with the ISP.
To setup a Linksys router with Cable connection you need to perform five steps:
  1. Verifying Internet Connection
  2. Connecting the Devices Together
  3. Checking the Router's LEDs
  4. Configuring a Linksys Router for a Cable Connection
  5. Power Cycling
NOTE: Before proceeding, use the computer that can go online when connected to the modem and follow the steps below.
Verifying Internet Connection
Connect the Broadband modem to the computer using an Ethernet cable without the router installed and make sure that the Internet connection is active. If it is not, contact your ISP. If it can go online, the PC connected to the modem is the one that's registered with the ISP.

kb4682-001_en.png NOTE: The image may vary depending on the computer and modem you're using.
Once an active Internet connection is established through the modem, connect the modem and the computer to the router by following the instructions below.
Connecting the Devices Together
After ensuring that you have an active Internet connection, connect the modem to the router's Internet port and the computer to any of the four Ethernet ports. For instructions, click here.
After connecting the devices, check the LEDs by following the instructions below.
Checking the Router's LEDs
The Linksys router's front panel will indicate the status of the connection. After connecting the broadband modem to the WAN or Internet port, the computer to an available numbered port and powering on the router check the lights on the front panel of the router. For instructions, click here.
After checking the router's LEDs, configure the router for cable Internet. For instructions, follow the steps below.

Step 2:

(b) If you are using Telstra Cable, proceed with the following setup. Obtain your user name and password from Telstra. Please disable any HB client that might have been previously running on the PC after the router is configured.

Step 7:

If you're not online, perform a power cycle to synchronize the router with the modem. For instructions, click here.

Once the router is configured, perform a power cycle. For instructions, follow the steps below.
Power Cycling

Step 1:

Step 2:

Unplug the router's power cable.

Step 3:

Step 5:

Plug in the router's power cable once the modem's lights appear stable.

Step 6:

Power on the computer on and test the Internet connection.
NOTE: If you're not online after performing this procedure, you may need to upgrade the firmware of the router.

I have a DSL502T ADSL Router, and have bought a new emachines computer. I can not connect to the internet. The computer has a wireless connection loaded but I want to connect by dailup Please could you help...

You are a bit confused with the various components required for Internet connections.
If you have a dial-up connection with an Internet Service Provider, all you do is connect your computer's modem port to the phone line and dial the phone number of your Internet Service provider.
If you are connected to the Internet Servise Provider by ADSL and have a combined ADSL router and modem then you connect the phone line to this router/modem. If the ADSL modem is separate component then the phone line is connected to the ADSL modem and this modem is connected to the router with a LAN cable and the computer is connected to the router with another LAN cable. If the route is wireless and the computer has a wireless card then you don't need a LAN cable between the router and the computer.
If you are connected to the Internet by ADSL, to secure your Internet connection and configure your computer so it can connect to the Internet, please follow my instruction - click on this link :-

Msi rg54g3 wireless router

Cable modem or DSL? If cable modem without phone service, modem power has to be unplugged 2 minutes before the router is connected in order to release the mac address from memory. If cable modem with phone service, same thing applies, but battery backup must also be disconnected.
DSL modem may require PPPoE setup into router.
