How to wire your subwoofers correctly...

Much like many aspects of electrical car audio must be wired properly to ensure that you don't have short circuits, fires, and damaged equipment. As an 8 year experienced car audio installer I still forget sometimes. The best thing to do if you aren't for sure is consult a resource, the two top sites that I have found that have adequate wiring diagrams and basically give you a picture of what you're supposed to be striving for. is the most highly recommended site in my book. They have a section in subwoofer wiring that allows you to choose the amount of drivers you have, the number of voice coils per driver, and the impedence of those voice coils. This is a big resource if you don't know what specific subwoofers to buy or what amp will push your currents subs to their potential. It gives you all the options for wiring possible and explains the ohm load you will be presenting to your amp ensuring fail safe wiring.

I need to connect my remote wire to a accessory wire but i dont know which one is the accessory wire. I dont have that light tester thing so I cant try it out. I heard you can just tap it with some fuse...

The accessory wire that you are looking for is the one that tells the head unit to turn on when you turn the key in car. If you have an aftermarket deck then the deck has it's own for the amp usually it is blue and in your case may not be connected to anything. If you don't have an aftermarket deck you will need to find a wiring diagram for the car radio harrness and it will be labeled. You dont want to use any random wire because if that wire always has power your amp will stay on and kill battery. You can wire a switch if you choose this method to prevent that from happening. You may also try running a wire from main power of amp to a small fuse (remote uses less than 2A) then to a switch and then back to remote screw of amp.
This website has wiring diagrams but colors dont always match. Good Luck

When i hooked the amp up the it would blink red right when i turn the stereio on

this can be caused by a short or a non constant current from your head unit to your remote power wire on your amplfier (your remote wire might be broken some where). Or your amp is losing ground. also check your speaker wiring and so on. has a subwoofer wiring diagram for all occasions.... make very sure you are wired properly this can be killing your amp causing the light to dim and so forth...

The light that has the lightning icon keeps blinking continous. what could be the problem

Hello djmalibu77,

You do not say if the amp has been installed and working properly for some time or if the problem began immediately upon installation.

If the amp was just installed, I'd suspect a wiring problem. Either a faulty ground or too low of an impedance.

If the amp has bee working properly and the problem just started, I'd start by removing all connections except ground, power, and remote and see if the amp powers up properly. If it does, reconnect the wiring one at a time to determine where the faulty wire or component is located. A grounded or shorted input, shorted voice coil, or a short or ground in the output wiring will cause an amp to go into protection. If these all check out, it's probably a fault in the amp itself.

Hope this helps.

Sub Wiring

Hello jtkpay,

Rockford-Fosgate claims their latest V-power 1500bd is stable to 1 ohm, and I would think that your Oldschool would also be. The 2 wiring options for 3 subs with 2 ohm dvc would give you a 1.34 ohm load and a 3 ohm load. The 1.34 ohm option would mean more watts to the subs, but the amp will run hotter. The diagrams look like this:

Using just 2 of the Kickers, you can wire 3 different ways, with final impedances of 0.5 ohms, 2 ohms, or 8 ohms. You do not want the 0.5 ohm load. It's bad for the amp. You don't want the 8 ohm load. It doesn't allow the amp to produce as much power. So that leaves only the 2 ohm, with coils in series and subs in parallel. It looks like this:

Hope this helps. If it does, please rate as "FixYa".

Fried Amp

It's unlikely that anyone will have a schematic for this amp. Lanzar has refused to provide them in the past. What 'fried' in the amp?
