Dryer runs only while holding the "start" button

you have a bad belt switch,if the dryer stays running while you hold the start button on and stops when you release the button its the belt switch part WD21X10261 i've seen this a few times,go here and look at part 803 this is the bad part.

you have to check the thermostats with a meter and there's a belt switch in there also,if the belt snaps the dryer won't run but sometimes the switch fails,sometimes if that switch fails if you hold the start button in the dryer will run until you let the button out.if the dryer hasn't been taken apart and cleaned out most likely you popped the thermal fuse but you have to check all the t-stats with a meter for continuity

ok open the dryer door look for a button inside where door shuts against hold that button down with other hand spin the dryer have some one push start button let it run for a sec then shut door and it should start

The start button starts the motor heater and energizes a relay that latches closed to keep the motor and heater running untill the timer switch or door switch cut the power to the relay and the relay opens.
The latching relay has failed or disconnected
if all the cables are attached to the relay
replace relay
not an expensive item, usualoly good for 10years
dryer circuits look like this, the start switch and relay are drawn just to the right of the motor, this diagram has no relevance to the physical position of the parts

Your start botton wore out inside. You can change it. Please note to connect wire exactly as the old one.
