Picture way too dark

Toshiba 36A40. I can't get the picture to lighten up enough any more. The contrast is adjusted all of the way up with the lightest screen mode selected. Is there anything a layman can do?

Good day,

There is an adjustment on the rear portion of your units flyback. It controls the screen brightness. Check out on this.

My tv screen is to dark how do I lighten the picture

If your TV has already fully adjusted in brightness set up?, and there will be no good picture results?...try to adjust the "SCREEN-Screw" at the flyback slowly. If the picture still dark'?. the picture tube has need to rejuvenate.

Picture is dark. I need to adjust the contrast

If its starts out bright enough then rapidly goes to dark it may not be a matter of contrast. If it is the contrast hit the menu button and go into the video menu then select user defined as the setting select the contrast and adjust it to whatever specific setting you would like.

Contrast & brightness is at 100% and picture is still too dark

If it can't be adjusted you have a problem with the biasing circuitry. Probably a bad bais IC resistor pack.

Toshiba television is black picture

If this just happens while vcr is playing. Check the vcr. Did you happen to adjust its brightness and contrast settings. If things doesn't change. Then if this model is a crt type could be adjustment on its flyback transformer is needed tweaking slowly its screen knob or tweaking also its focus knob until you got it to the level of viewing it correctly.

But be aware, hazardous voltages inside it. Or let th technician set it for you, its a minor adjustment.

Dark picture (HELP)

Open up the back of the set but be very carefull. Notice a large black block with a large red wire that runs up to the picture tube. on one side of that large block where the thick red wire is comming out of are two controls, one should be marked focus or F and one should be marked screen or S. With the set operating normally and not touching anything else, slowly turn the control marked screen or S clockwish till the picture gets bright enough. If you go too bright the set will shut down or you see small thin white lines so back down on the control. then touch up the focus and your good to go. good Luck.
