Generally, this is a fault of the default power management settings in Device Manager. Open Device Manager, USB Devices, USB Root Hub, Right Click, Properties, Power Management Tab. Uncheck the box to allow the computer to turn off the device to save power.
Repeat on all USB Root Hubs
Reboot
Connect a USB device, see if it is detected.

Greetings. I tried to drain the battery of my Acer Aspire D250 notebook this morning but had to lave the house leaving it with about 4 or 5 minutes of power in the battery. When I came back I noticed that although I had shut down the computer properly, disconnected it and closed it up the battering light continued to flash orange. Thinking that it was perhaps alerting me that the battery needed charging, I wanted to see if it would power up, so I tried once and it worked (battery light turned steady orange) and shut it down (battery light continued to flash orange), then tried to power it up again and nothing happened, it wouldn't work. I have it connected now and obviously it is working with the AC power (battery light is steady orange at the moment but I am assuming this is because the battery is nearly empty still. Is this flashing of the battery light when the Acer is off normal, or is something going wrong with my computer?? It's not only a fantastic little machine but I just bought it to travel to America with it next weekend because I have work to write up and no longer have any time to have it serviced, so I'm quite scared that something might happen to it just before I go! Thanks for any info anyone can give me! Best, Bea
