Powder not being dispensed.

When switched on my machine completely misses the powder compartment and runs into the fabric softener compartment and then into the machine. As a result have had to switch to gels and tablets in the drum and find these are leaving my machine smelly so I'm constantly cleaning it. Have pulled the drawer out and washed it but no residue so don't think thats the problem. Help anyone? Its a Candy 1600 Tempo (think thats right)
