2003 Volkswagen Passat Center Rear Belt Locked

Nice to know it's not an isolated incident. Same problem with this ridiculous design...the belt locks and won't allow the seat to be folded back. Some Fiat forums have discussed the same problem as well. Check out http://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/96010-rear-middle-seat-belt-stuck.html maybe it will shed some light...

The fix is:

  • remove the seat bench,
  • unscrew the bolt attaching the seat belt to the body,
  • return the seat back to its upright position and make sure it latches
  • reattach the seat belt
  • replace the seat bench
To prevent this from happening again:
  • Leave the seat belt latch in its receiver when not in use.

I own a 1999 VOlkswagen Passat. Just 15 minutes ago, my power steering locked up, battery light came on, temperature gauge went to the far right (hot) AND I have no heat. I'm sure they're all...

chances are there is 1 belt that runs all of the componets and the belt has either came off or broke replace it and you should be good to go.

I have 2003 Passat with 140K on the clock, 8 months ago it developed a screeching noise turning the wheel left and right when stationary like the belt was screeching. The garage could not see a problem,...

the screeching noise could be rubber deposits on the belt pulley or pulley bearings for the power steering pump BUT its also a big clue that the timing belt tensioner is about to give up...CHECK BOTH please.....

Have to replace the timing belt on my 2003 vw passat and would like a belt diagram

Hopefully you mean a sepentine belt and not the timing belt. There is a diagram under the hood for the serpentine belt. Look on the radiator shroud or close to it. The timing belt requires a great deal of engine disassembly and probably is more that most home mechanics can handle.
