I HAVE ALL THE ORIGINAL PAPERS WITH ALL DETAILS OF BIKE. I WAS TOLD IT WILL COST AROUND $1300 TO $1500 AS THEY NEED TO REPLACE THE WHOLE ECA UNIT.IS THERE A CHEAPER WAY THAT ANY MAY BE ABLE TO HELP ME. MAYBE A DIRECT SOURSE TO JAPAN TO GET ANOTHER IGNITION AND KEYS?
I WAS TOLD IF I GET A SECOND HAND ONE THAT. I WOULD STILL NEED TO HAVE ONE ORIGINAL KEY TO EXCHANGE WHICH DOESNT MAKE MUCH SENTS TO ME,KIND REGARDS STEVE
I had the same problem with a older honda magna. I took the ignition assembly apart, and got the actual ignition out ( part where the key goes in) and nothing else. I then took it to a locksmith and he gave me two keys that turned the ignition within minutes. He said there was a number on the ignition that determined the code he used. I would try doing this before spending that kind of money. Remember it has to be a locksmith not the dealer. Good Luck

All the HISS does is take note of the code from a specific key. You can make it recognise up to four keys but you need to have one of those keys first to be able to get into the system to add another key.
If you don't have any key that works then you will have to replace the ECU and key with a new matched set.
Or you can get a non-HISS ECU from the US.
This has been asked before, the link is below. The answer doesn't say how to hotwire it, but provides hints on how to replace the key. A modern bike is probably pretty hard to hotwire.
hi, yes this is correct, you will have to buy a key from honda and have them re code the key for you, you will have to have the bike pluged in to a diagnosic machine for recodeing at a dealership
Do not listen to your dealer, if you can ride or trailer it, just go to your local locksmith, he will be able to cut you a new set of key and will cost less than the dealer, the fit still pretty good usually.
Other way is to have noted the key indicator number from your key-cylinder and ask the dealer to get an original factory key (normally an authorised dealer have a book that describe how the key are shaped to fit a particular key-hole in a bike) this process is abit expensive but sure fit.
Good enough?
Keys here in the USA most likely come from Honda ... because most places (hardware store, discount store, locksmith) will not stock them ... Keys I am familiar with here don't have a electronic chip in them.
Easiest solution is replace the ignition switch, though most dealers should be able to cut you a key based on the VIN. If you replace the lock, make sure you get a couple spare keys made.
If you are really despirate ... the ignition switch is after all only a two position switch ... Off/on. Get a toggle switch and make it work (this is for people with advanced skills)
I would be amaized if there was an easy bypass for this. I would really start looking for that key. The key, barell and ECU are matched. If you lose a key with a HIPS equiped bike you are in or a big bill as all 3 units need replacing. There is a chip in the key which is matched to a coil in the ignition which has a code embeded in the ECU. Good luck.
get a free pdf service manual for your bike here. you should find out how to remove the ignition. or if you have a seat lock that is easier to remove take that to a locksmiths to get new key cut
