Question about Honeywell Programmable Thermostat Heater

2 Answers

No heat! Hello, I have a boiler with a hot water tank. When i switch on my central heating it lights up fine and burns for about 2-3 minutes and then switches itself off. I can hear what sounds like water boiling before it switches off (goes back to just the pilot light). The radiators remain cold during this time. The heating system is about 15 years old and has given intermittent problems over the past year, but it has rectified itself after 2-3 days of trying it. Any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks

Re: No heat!

I took your advice and got someone in this afternoon. He replaced the pump there and then and all is working well again. He charged £135 for the pump plus labour. It was the best price I could get after ringing around a few other companies. I wish I was a plumber and could charge prices like that!
Thanks a lot for your help.

Re: No heat!

Ger, do you get your hot water off the same boiler and it that working alright? How many zones and are they controled by zone valves (little boxes mounted on the pipes) or circulators (small pumps)?

Boiling water sounds can indicate hard water deposits in the boiler or that your aquastat is set too high allowing the water to heat up higher than it should. Check your boiler guage and let me know what temperature you are recording. Get back to me with the answers to my questions, we'll figure it out.

Came home after a weekend away and central heating not working. Programmer not turning heating on (honeywell st6400c) but the boiler (a sentima ht 60l) looks like it has a fault. The mains light us on but...

Possible cause of lockout: boiler low water level. If you have a combination temperature/pressure gauge, it should read approximately 12 psi when the boiler is cold. When it runs, it will be approximately 22 psi. If the pressure is low feel the inlet water supply piping. Open the manual feeder valve. The cold water coming in will verify that there is no obstruction to the water flow. You may have "dirt" in the line. You may have a defective water pressure valve or check valve. Another thought. Make sure your AIR SEPARATOR is functional. Remove the cap and depress the valve. You should see water. If air comes out, continue to"bleed" the AIR SEPARATOR. You may haven't to replace the A/S.

I have Drayton Heating System in new home. I seem to be unable to put my central heating on without also having the water heater on. The boiler will come on if the water heating and central heating is on...

you will only be able to have the central heating on seperately if the system is fully pumped. Why would you not want the water to heat? it is more cost effective to use the residual heat to heat the water and keep the temperature up. Costs alot more to heat a cold house and a cold water tank

St6400c thermostat wont run the central heating independantly

This does not sound like a thermostat problem. I would be looking for a zone valve or circulator pump problem.

If wires OK check that the valves are working switchoff HW and Heating switch one on at a time and check that each valve is opening and closing and that the boiler and pump fires up ( it could b the micro-switch in the valve is broke! )
