Replaced the idol air control valve for my 1995 ford contour and broke the wire that attaches to the throttle. I don't know how to adjust the part (don't know what it's called) that the wire is attached to. It revs up to 6000 rpm's and I don't know how to adjust it. Can you help?
Yes the wire was replaced now I don't know how to adjust the screw to get the correct rpm. It revs way to fast.Yes the wire was replaced now I don't know how to adjust the screw to get the correct rpm. It revs way to fast.

You can't adjust the idle , There is a minimum idle adjustment set at the factory , you don't want to mess with that . The PCM / ECM ,engine computer controls the idle speed by the idle air control valve (motor) . You may have a dirty throttle plate mess with the base idle .Check out this video on ford base idle adjustment . Some one who didn't know cranked up the base idle causing problems Ford IAC valve test how to adjust minimum idle speed
This vehicle is equipped with On Board Diagnostics II (OBD II).Engine idle speed is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. The throttle body does not allow for adjustments and must not be cleaned or damage to the special "sludge tolerant" coating in the throttle body bore will be harmed. If a problem is encountered with the engine idle speed, the OBD II system must be thoroughly inspected before a proper repair can be performed.
Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve OPERATION
The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve controls the engine idle speed and dashpot functions. The valve is located on the side of the throttle body. This valve allows air, determined by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and controlled by a duty cycle signal, to bypass the throttle plate in order to maintain the proper idle speed.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
Disconnect the negative battery cable. To remove the IAC valve, first disconnect the negative battery cable, then the IAC wire harness plug
Next, remove the two IAC valve attaching bolts . . .
. . . and pull the valve from the intake manifold
Disengage the wiring harness connector from the IAC valve.
Remove the two retaining screws, then remove the IAC valve and discard the old gasket.
To install: When installing the valve, always discard the old gasket and install it using a new one
Clean the IAC valve mounting surface on the throttle body of old gasket material.
Using a new gasket, position the IAC valve on the throttle body. Install and tighten the retaining screws to 71-106 inch lbs. (8-12 Nm).
Attach the wiring harness connector to the IAC valve.
I was reading in one of my repair manuals and it says in there that there could be a block where the exhaust gas pressure sensor is. There could be a blocked inlet hose. Or it could be the ECM.
did you clean the idle speed control air bypass valve?, u do this by spraying carb spray into the intake while the engine is held at hi idle so it won't stall, use up about half the can, then shut down and disconnect battery for 5 minutes to reset system idle learn, drive the car for a few days and let me know if the problem is fixed.
I decided to check the idol air control valve, when I removed it I found the problem right behind it. The P C V valve hose was just about into where it fastens to the intake, the other end was bad also. Cost me aout $6.00 Where auto parts stores were telling me parts would cost two or three hundred $$.
Yes the wire was replaced now I don't know how to adjust the screw to get the correct rpm. It revs way to fast.
Replace the wire.
