Hi Denzilsias

If you are electronically skilled, You can replace the Button strip. Get on Ebay, and buy you one. It is called the PSP button bar. Now to be honest with you, your problem may not be with the Button Bar at all, but the ABXY Board that the Button bar plugs into.
Click on "Repair Directory" at the bottom of this screen, then on the next page, click on "Video Game Consoles" find a Repair shop that has experience working on PSP's. They will put the right part in.

SOURCE: PSP start button and select button not work

  1. Connect the PSP to your PC with a USB cable. (about $10: buy a USB cable for your PSP)
  2. Press the "home" button on the PSP (it's a tiny button to the lower left of the screen) then use the left-right directional buttons to find "Settings", then the up-down buttons to find "USB Connection" on the PSP.
  3. Press the "X" button (you got it, the round button with the "X" on it) and your PSP should display "USB Connection".
  4. In a moment or two your computer should tell you that a new USB device has been connected, then show you a new generic hard drive, usually E: or F:
  5. Click on the drive letter that corresponds to the PSP unit.
  6. Now create a new folder on that drive and name it "psp".
  7. Within the new "psp" folder create another folder, and name it "music".
  8. Copy your desired mp3 files into the new "music" folder.
  9. When you're done copying your desired music tracks, press the "O" button on the PSP to get out of USB connect mode.

Hi. Since you're in UMD Autoload mode, you need to configure that in the PSP Settings. To do this, turn off your PSP and remove your UMD. Now, turn it back on and it won't autoload your UMD since it wasn't there anymore.
Now, go to "Settings" and scroll down to "System Settings" and press X. Scroll down again the selection until you see "UMD Auto-Start" and press X. At the right side will appear the options "ON" and "OFF". Select "OFF" and press O button several times to go back to main screen.
Insert your UMD. Now, try playing games from Memory Stick. You may have to turn off your PSP and turn it on again to finally play homebrew...
I hope this helps...

Select button wont work

the control chip under the button isnt making contact with the plastic button,, easy fix, take the cover off the psp clean the buttons with a pencil eraser and put the cover back on (without screwing it down) check for contact,,,,if it works then screw it back together if it doesnt then pop the cover off and put a small piece of tape on the select button its self to make up for the slack). Hope this helps you out..it worked for me!

its maybe cause you have no UMD and you"re trying to run an ISO file. to fix this, you can press select button and choose in the UMD mount mode: SONY NP6990. if this isnt working just put an iso in your UMD drive.

Directional buttons for PSP not working.

Star wars: force unleashed was a bad game... anyways:
Maybe the disk isnt read rite by your psp. maybe the disk is wrong?
Or it could just be that you dont use the directional buttons for gameplay, just the analog stick. XD

Help my PSP

If not on hold then you may have to remove lid. by the screws under batt. and on side of PSP. Be very careful to not break anything, remember if it does not come off easy then there maybe another screw in place. Once open cleaned the pads that are beside home button and replace lid. Hope this helps
