I'm in the market to purchase a new dishwasher. My budget is ~ $800. Of course, I'm looking for reliability and performance. What make and model do you recommend?

Thank Chris! Took your suggestion and finally got one for the wife for Mother's Day. Installed it today and she just LOVES it. (So do I.)

HOW TO BUY A DISHWASHER....IMPORTANT THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND...!!

A Dishwasher is now a days an essential in a Kitchen. But when you step into the the world

of varieties of Dishwashers available these days. So here are a few tips that you should keep in mind while buying a dishwasher

that's Perfect for your use:

First and foremost thing that all of us think about is the amount that a dishwasher is going to cost us.

so do keep in mind that the cost of a dishwasher depends largely upon its capacity, so always remember to buy a

dishwasher that suits you the best. A normal choice or a standard is 24" or 18" size. An 18" dishwasher is

suitable for a couple or a family of 3-4, and can hold up to 6 or 8 standard place settings. a regular 24" sized dishwasher is suitable

for a family conveniently. I would recommend an 18" size dishwasher for a couple or for people who use it occasionally.

and a 24" for a full family....

Secondly you can also prefer getting a stainless steel finished washer if looks matter to you, as this one looks really elegant...

whereas there are a large variety of matte finished, steel look etc. washers that are a few examples of products

available in the market.

So by reading this I hope you get some help the next time you think of buying a dishwasher... Good Luck...!!

Hi,

I have an older dishwasher also and recently my wife also complained about it not cleaning right... so me being the man I am tried in vain to clean the things... Bought new spray arms online and installed them in minutes...now the thing works like new... However I have also found that if the heating element goes bad then that also can mess things up bad... So I would buy new spray arms, and also check out the heating element to make sure it is working... Here is a tip that will help you with the online buying...

Dishwasher leaves behind gritty residue i am not sure of what to try...

We have a Kitchen Aid dishwasher, 10 years old, never any problems until 2 weeks ago, then we started noticing a gritty subtance on the dishes and glassware. We're on well service, psi 40-60. water hardness is 6 grains. small trace of sulphur, and we have a Mermaid sulphur system, then a complete house carbon filter, and finally a Culligan water softner. Checked everything, Water temp. at kitchen was 120, all cycles on dishwasher were operating. Called in repair service, he says something is breaking down in the dishwasher, best to buy a new one. That'll be $150.00. Thank you very much. Tried the white vinegar, no change. Next bought 2 bottles of Dishwaser Magic. Slight improvement. Next bought 1 bottle of Finish Dishwasher Cleaner. Bingo. The thing is like brand new. even the trays slide in/out much easier. None of the dishsoaps contain phosphate, which is what helps disolve the minerals in the water. I'm not sure what the gritty stuff is, maybe the buildup over time, and it just keeps getting redistributed through the wash and rinse cycles, and finally baked on in the dry cycle. According to a tech with many years repairing appliances, the majority of their calls are for dishwasher poor performance, all because they removed the one compound that's been cleaning our dishes for years, Phosphate. We've always used Cascade gel soap. best on the market today, Finish Quantum. We tried it and dishes look terrific. It's a small tablet that fits in the soap dispenser. All Mfg's. today recommend that you run a dishwasher cleaner once a year, Experienced tech recommends every 3 months maybe more if you're on hard water. Good luck.

15 yr old Roper dishwasher won't drain. I have to bail out water with small bucket. Plumber says pump must be out and better off to buy a new dishwasher. Should I get it fixed or buy a new one?

My advice is with the plumber, however the washer is doing it's job then buying a new pump is the way to go and now during these economic times if you can maintain a budget balance by repairing the device and it saving money then the repair wins every time. the washer will pay for the purchase of a new pump ( if you can find one for that model) over an over again. Then save for the new washer when this washer has seen it's usefull days.
Hope this helps. Have a great day!

Need to find ''smaller'' model stainless steel dishwasher

This is an unusual need and before buying any you might find, I would recommend entering the mfr.'s name here at FixYa (or elsewhere) to see how their reliability rates.
While not an absolute indicator of reliability, you are looking for an uncommon size and you don't want to end up with one made by a company (which may be smaller than most) who doesn't warranty and support their products.

The only number on the nameplate of my Costco-purchased "Quiet Partner IV" built-in Whirlpool dishwasher (steel insides) is 8575637. This dishwasher does not clean spoons right-they always have dirt left...

Yes, you almost certainly have a Whirlpool Gold Quiet Partner III Model #8575637
Of course the great news with buying from Costco is the ability to return products you are dissatisfied with. Check with the customer service desk.
Please reply if you want to to get into repairing it and we will get under way.
