How do i transfer vhs-c to my pc??

First i have a panasonic pv-l780d. I seen a plug opening on the back near the battery that said to pc so i hunted around and found the right cable for it. I was hoping it was plug and play but its not it uses a com port so i was wondering how do i get the video from vhs-c to my pc do i need some kind of program?

- hi i have a soney hanycam ccd-trv36 hi-8 analog camcorder and i would like to transfer my tapes on to my laptop, i now have a large bag of cables i have puchased to try and set this up but still can get it conected, can any one help or pleeeeease tell me the correct name of the cable i should purchase, many thanks- deborahross2

Well, I know this is a belated reply but I thought I would reply anyway. I own a Panasonic PV-L780D myself and the only thing the TO PC plug allows is the ability to upload the still photos to your PC so the actual analog video contained on the VHC C cannot be uploaded to a PC.
