Emachine T2385 Won't Boot in Normal Mode past Windows XP Screen

Only recently my Emachines T2385 will not boot past the Windows XP banner screen in normal mode. The monitor will cycle down and act as if the computer has been shut down. I've tried another monitor and it doesn't work either, and I've then tried mine with another computer and it works fine. The monitor is not the problem. I've tried reseating the memory and the nVidia video card, and nothing. The PSU is an upgrade and works fine. I've scanned for malware and viruses and nothing. I've been told that the MOBO is bad... but here's the thing... everything works fine in safe mode. Is there a setting that if inadvertentlyset or changed would cause this to occur? It seems that many people have reported this problem... yet no one has ever posted a solution... it's always... "you need a new MOBO." Basically, what will cause the monitor to shut down in normal mode when it functions fine in safe mode, and the monitor is NOT the problem? I greatly appreciate any assistance or insight you can offer... thanks!

The first thing I would check is your video card (usually driver) problem. Start windows in safemode with networking. If this problem has occured after updating the video card driver you may try rolling back the driver to a previous version, otherwise try

Once windows starts you'll want to go to the start menu and find and click run. In the text box enter the command "devmgmt.msc" and hit enter and the device manager should appear. Look for display adapters and left click the + and you should see your video card. Right click the video card and select properties from the drop down menu. Select thr driver tab. Now if the problem had occured after updating the driver, choose rollback the driver from the menu. If not try selecting the update driver option. After updating/rolling back the driver you'll want to try restarting in normal mode.

If it still won't start in normal mode you can try troubleshooting the video card under the general tab in properties, though to be honest I've found this rarely usefull but it might help you. Otherwise you'll want to make sure that your videocard is enabled in BIOS. A quick totorial of BIOS if needed http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/bios-beginners,1126.html.

Otherwise it's likely a physical issue with the graphics card. Since you've tried reseating the card already it may be that the card is damaged and will need to be replaced.
