the thing will not boot up. ive gone over every connection a dozen times, everything seems to be connected correctly. the front led lights work and when i press the power button the system and fans all come on for literally half a second and then powers off. no video either. im thinking either the processor is bad (although is brand new) or the dynex 500w power supply isnt compatible (brand new also) anyone have a similar problem during installation and find a solution?

- thank you so much that did indeed enlighten me a little although now i am thinking perhaps the power supply doesnt agree with the board. i did as you said and also unhooked the 4 pin connector labeled atx12v which supplies the cpu with power i think? its the 4 pin connection behind the rear output panel for mouse/keyboard etc. the system powered up and stayed on! no video however. put the connector back in and back to turning on for half a second and powering off....any ideas? thanks
The best way to troubleshoot the issue is to strip down the motherboard to just the CPU, and then apply power. If it behaves normally you would then begin adding items back on starting with your memory. The idea is that you keep adding items until the problem you describe appears. The last item that you added on would then be the issue. If you are not able to get it to boot with just the CPU onboard, then you either have a motherboard issue, or as you stated, a CPU issue. The only way to identify which it would be is to either try the CPU on another board, or try a different CPU on your board. Your board might have a set of diagnostic beeps built in. If you start getting beeps with just the CPU onboard, check your owners manual to identify the issue. It should only give you a code stating that it is missing memory and other items.

- That connector is the CPU power connector. Plugging it in and having the
problem surface signifies either the CPU is blown, or there is a short
in the power lead. The only way to make sure is to either try a
different CPU, or connect your power supply to another motherboard.

My ipod crashes my computer anytime I try to put music on it. I can open Itunes and add stuff to the library, but if I try to put it on my ipod, it freezes up. I've bought a couple of new hard drives and the problem persists. I've got the proper USB settings and everything. I'm wondering if this can be motherboard related? Thanks, Angie
