Help! I bought the above at Changi Airport. Just got it out of the box but there are no instructions. I am pretty computer illiterate and can't figure out how to use it. There is the box, the wire connectors and a small CD. What do I do now??

From Verbatim "Installing your portable hard drive is extremely simple - just use the included mini-USB cable to connect your hard drive to any free USB port on your computer. On Windows computers, a new icon will appear in My Computer representing your hard drive. On Mac OS systems, your hard drive will appear on the desktop as a new disk."
u can try some hit and trial...
1 - keep ur USB HD off and switch on the PC then switch on the power on USB HD
2 - try another USB port
3 - try another USB cable connector
4 - check ur Device manager/usb root hub settings/power setting, uncheck the box that says" alow computer to switch off power....in Power Mgt tab
If the drive is new and you do not see it as a drive in my computer in may need to be initilized and/or partitioned. Click Start, then Right click on My Computer and click Manage, then click Disk Management. See if your external drive shows up in the list. If it does, right click in the box on the left to see your options. if it needs to be initialized choose it in the list. Then right click on the larger box on the right and choose Partition as the option and follow the instructions given.
Right Click on My Computer, click on Manage, go to Disk Managment, if the drive is available you will see it there. Check to see if it has a drive letter assigned to it, if not right click on it and choose Change Drive letters. Make sure you are on the external drive though, you don't want to change your C drive accidentally. It should pop up in My Computer.
I had a simliar problem. This is how I fixed it in XP;
Remove any attached external devices except the one having the
1. Control Panel
2. Administative Tools
3. Computer Management
4. Under Storage right click on "Disk Mangement"
5. The bad drive should show up as Disk 1 with a black bar across
6. Right click on the bar.
7.Select " change drive letter and paths " and follow the instructions.
8. If number 7 does not work, go back to the menu and select
"Format". During the FORMAT I believe you will be asked to assign
a drive letter.
9. GOOD LUCK
I acutally had this problem with two different drives. I fixed the first one using the instructions above. But the second drive didn't even show up in Disk Management. I had to return it for a new one.
i am assuming that this is a laptop, getting the disk out, if you flip you laptop over on the back, under the dvd/cd drive you should see the screws, slow take them off and the drive pull out, dont pull it too far, just enough to take the disk out and re screw it back together, i am not sure it this hard disk is for made for mac only or what, but try to go on line, search for the driver for this model, download, and it should work good luck
Thankyou for your reply SirDrag, I have tried the above, my daughter is helping me from her end, we are going to try disk director suite to see if it will pick it up, and units light comes on and I can feel it going, but it does not register on the PC, it says new found hardware on the laptop and nothing comes up. It does not show anywhere. We will try the disk director and see what happens, or I might just have to send it back, my daughter thinks that it might have to be formatted.
Let me know if you have any other ideas, again thanks
