I own an inspiron 6400 which all of a sudden started going dark. Whether plugged in or on battery - same thing. The screen goes dark to the point that i can't see what's running in the background. If I plug an external monitor into it, it works just fine.

1) UNPLUG THE LAPTOP 2) REMOVE THE BATTERY 3) HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO 2 MINUTES 4) THEN PUT THE BATTERY BACK IN 5) START IT UP..
does the machine work at all? at best its faulty charger , I recall a laptop sometime ago I worked on had a fight with what looked like , 3 pints of milk and a cup of coffee showed same syptoms, could be faulty MOBO
Hi my inspiron 6400 cannot boot up after trying several time .I press switch on, then after 3 second it goes off again.Battery fully charge.

hi rock08 have u tried to go safe mode through f8...and i would like to know have u format the system.....have u check that u may have install any unwanted software before ....u check all the things still it is cured i will help u
