HP Photosmart 3310 does not recognize paper in tray

HP photosmart 3310 all in one printer cannot recognize that there is paper loaded in the main tray. Is there a sensor or something that might need to be replaced or repaired?

I've tried loading 1 page at a time up to 40 pages and the printer still shows out of paper.

The printer won't recognize that paper is loaded. The only thing I can do is move the paper and try again until it finally recognizes it and prints.

I have the same problem with my HP Photosmart 3310. It fixed itself when I replaced an ink cartridge (coincidence) and worked for about 4 months and now is back to "out of paper".

I have inadvertantly damaged the rear paper roller sensor (a small bakelite module with a sensor arm.) Need to replace it.

    how can I fix it.

This is usually do to a sensor, your correct on that, thers usually a plastic piece that indicates theres paper and its broken or worn.

The other thing is that it may be the little rubber grabber is worn and not grabbing the paper, so the printer thinks thers no paper because nothings going through. These parts can be orderd but are usually costly depending on the printer. If its under warranty, take it back.

Also, check the trey and make sure it isnt a I.D.10.T error and you just set the paper to legal or something. I've made that mistake before.

Are the rollers worn out? If they have a slick appearance, that is your problem. Also examine the tray and see if it is lifting properly.

My HP Photosmart 3310 will not pick-up A4 glossy photo paper in the main tray. 6x4 works fine in the photo tray

Your printer might have opening area for clearing paper jams, also on that area there are some rounded parts that do actual picking-up of paper. Clean those parts with some non-agresive cleaning agent and try again.

I don't know where the "photo tray" is located!

You have to specify the paper type in the printer properties. Look in the printer properties folder and navigate to the paper type or options. You'll find a place where you can specify what kind of paper you have.
