I was listening to a cd and it just went into protect mode. I've had this radio for a few moths never had a problem until now.

I guess I'll jump on the bandwagon here. My stereo is doing the exact same thing. I posted to another problem like this on but this post seems to have more attention. Listening to the FM tuner and it went into protect mode. Manual says check wires for short circuit and to make sure the wires haven't touched chassis. I have everything either taped off with electrical tape or capped off.

What is the make and model and year of your vehicle, and is it the radio that came in the vehicle from the factory?

My KDC BT742U recently went into protect mode after I went over a small bump. I drive a 2001 F150 Supercrew that had the stock stereo in it before the new kenwood. No problems had ever occurred before...

What has happened, is the bump has caused a broken joint on the pcb I have seen this many times in my shop. You need to take the actual unit in for repair, I mean the "Bump" and the "Problem" are indeed connected, and this is exactly what happens.

"protect" display when volume is high and volume cuts in and out.

you should have it repaired.the audio circuit is malfunctioning because of the sudden burst/surge of current.

My sharp Stereo is stuck in '' protect'' mode

Protect mode is not something that a reset will fix. Basically it indicates that there is a problem with the final output stage of the amplifier. Normally this indicates that the output transistors are defective. In most boomboxes, the amplifier is a single IC. If you can post the model number, I can provide you with the required part and cost.

I have a jvc stereo and its stopped playing music and went into protect mode what does that mean? is there something that i can do for that with out paying lots of money to get it fixed and just do it my...

Usually "protect" mode means it has either

1. Overheated (a thermistor on/near the cooling fins for the audio output transisitors has indicated that the machine is running too hot). This is usually solved by turning the unit off for 30 min.

2. Some circuit inside the unit has indicated an error condition, turning your stereo into a doorstop.

Security Code for Protect mode

Turn on the car so the radio is flashing "Protect." Look on the front / removable face of the stereo. On it you will find a small round hole - that's a reset button. Find a small paper clip, unfold the clip and stick it gently into the hole. The "Protect" will stop flashing, and Kenwood will be displayed. Unfortunately all your settings/presets will be gone, but at least the stereo is working again!

Amp went into protect, but front speakers sound distorted too

If the amp still goes into protect mode, the easiest thing to do is disconnect the RCA cables from the amp and see if still goes into protect mode (after turning off/on). If it does, the issue lies in the amp or the wiring to/from the amp (most likely case). Check to make sure no speaker wires came loose and touched +12V or ground (car body). From the sound of it, my guess is something internal to the amp died and will need repair.
