Re: 'Protect'

What is the make and model and year of your vehicle, and is it the radio that came in the vehicle from the factory?

My car stereo flashes the word "PROTECT"

If this happened while playing music at a little higher volume, you must check the speakers for short in coils. disconnect the speakers to see if the protect condition changes, if so check the speakers and wiring. If not then you must have blown up the output IC or a power shorting within the set. You will have to remove the pcb disconnect the power to the output IC to confirm the fault. Helpful I hope. My KDC BT742U recently went into protect mode after I went over a small bump. I drive a 2001 F150 Supercrew that had the stock stereo in it before the new kenwood. No problems had ever occurred before...

What has happened, is the bump has caused a broken joint on the pcb I have seen this many times in my shop. You need to take the actual unit in for repair, I mean the "Bump" and the "Problem" are indeed connected, and this is exactly what happens.

Faceplate is stuck on protect

hi sounds like you have a speaker issue,
try disconnecting the speakers and reconnecting them one at a time.

either that or the power output stage is faulty

Protect mode Kenwood KDC MP438U in dash reciever

Anytime there is a short circuit or your battery down low enough you will recieve this signal. If you press the little "reset button" using a small pin or screwdriver your unit should reboot without the "PROTECT" signal. If seeing this "PROTECT" sign is a result of jumping your car, this will fix it. If the signal persists, then there is still a short circuit and you need to check your connection with the battery. Most likely it is touching the chasis or some othere metal.

Security Code for Protect mode

Turn on the car so the radio is flashing "Protect." Look on the front / removable face of the stereo. On it you will find a small round hole - that's a reset button. Find a small paper clip, unfold the clip and stick it gently into the hole. The "Protect" will stop flashing, and Kenwood will be displayed. Unfortunately all your settings/presets will be gone, but at least the stereo is working again!

Do you get adequate bass on the radio, or is it a bit quiet on the low-end?
