This has all ready been replaced. The finish (oxidation) from the stainless steel tub rubs off onto your clothes.

Residue and oily stains on all my sheets and white underwear which do not come out. Inumerable calls to Whirlpool offered no satisfaction. Have complained to them for 3 years now. Only offer made was a 10% discount on a new machine. After 4th service call repairman replaced u-joint. Filed paper work for class action suit, but never heard anymore from Wisconsin law firm. My daughter-in-law's Calypso had to be junked after 3 years use. This is the last Whirlpool product I will buy.

Yes, we have the same problem. A dark, brown stain on alot of clothes- 1 -4 items per load.

What should we do? Junk it or repair it. Either way it's going to cost me.

What actually will happen over time is the stainless steel retianing hub and nut diseningrate and the tub becomes loose. Then the spin cycle will destroy the top balancing ring. When this happens - the washer is junk - not worth repairing.
Before that thou - other mechanical problems can happen, like u-joint breakage. These washers are absolute junk.

My washing machine has been leaving light grey streaks across various clothes, sheets and towels. I have no idea what is wrong - machine or old pipes.

I had the plumber come and change the pipes and leaking tap but I suspect something in the washing machine will need changing.

Please email any advice to hdelduca@hotmail.com

I actually have a question regarding this. The residue, is it like a dark grey to almost black streak? All over light clothes?

The u-joint balancer kit needs to be replaced. it located under the wash plate where your clothes. its not the stainless steel. you might want to do a search to see if your model falls under the class action on this washer before you repair it

How to clean stubborn burned on stains in the stainless steel oven

You need to use ordinary soap as a lubricant and a fine steel wool to buff the steel surface. That will remove any built up surface debris completely but you may still have some discolouration of the metal remain.
An automotive polish designed for polishing stainless steel and aluminium (available from auto parts stores) might finish the job for you and remove much of any remaining staining but I would not use a chemical of that type on an inside surface that is used for cooking your food. (Same issue with those dreadful chemical and toxic oven cleaners).

Unfortunately, with use of the unit and heat , you will get some residual discolouration of the stainless steel.

Clorine is very strong caustic . It can and will eat tru steel. Run baking soda through serval wash cycles followed by vinegar and rinse again with baking soda. This should remove the bleach or at least neutralize the caustic solution

Soap-not residue-still on clothes

Wow that's a strange one.
Are you pouring the soap into the tub onto the clothes or using a soap dispenser? If using a dispenser, it may be malfunctioning, try pouring soap directly into the tub under the waterfall while it is filling.
When the machine is agitating are the clothes on top being drawn under the water? Usually this occurs as a rolling motion from the edge of the tub towards the agitator. If the top layer of clothes have an air bubble trapped in them they may not be submerging into the water. Any soap on top may not be dissolved.
Finally, if you are pouring soap into the tub, make sure you are not spilling any onto the inside of the lid or in the softener dispenser. It could get trapped in the lip around the edge of the lid and be spilling onto the clothes when you open the lid at the end of the cycle.
Do you have the same problem if you use powder soap?

Try checking the gaskets where the hoses connect to the water supply and the washer, I have found when they start breaking down they can sometimes almost melt onto the clothes.

use lighter fluid like the stuff ZIPPO lighters use, rub softly using a soft cloth and the residue will come off. Leave the petrol on to soak and "melt" the sticky stuff for about 30secs-1minute before you start to wipe off.

This is actually normal. It is normal to have water between the wash basket (stainless steel tub) and the outer wash tub (plastic). There shouldn't be a problem unless the water is excessive enough to pool inside the wash tub itself or overflow onto the floor. You will always find a small amount of residual water between the tubs. Don't waste your money on a service call unless you absolutely have to.
