Question about Symbol LS 4278 Barcode Scanner

1 Answer

Red Beam stuck on

The red beam is stuck on. The trigger seems to be just fine and doesn't appear to be stuck. The beam stays on whether the gun is mounted to the base or not. We can't scan anything or try to reprogram because the beam does not respond with any bar codes. I've never ran into this problem with any of our Symbol guns. Any Ideas? Thanks!

Re: Red Beam stuck on

You sound like a pretty experienced user. You've likely already tried pulling the battery for an hour replacing the battery, and then defaulting.

If you haven't try it. Symbol gear is excellent, but even BMW'a break occasionally. Our shop is one of many that can effect a hardware repair.

How do I narrow the scan beam on the n410

The scan beam is fixed and can not be adjusted. However moving the n410 closer to the bar code will reduce the width of the beam itself. The narrow beam is designed to accommodate static stands as well as manual use.
Simply hold the n410 a few inches away from the bar code and the beam will be able to read the code underneath. No adjustment except the distance between the n410 and the barcode is required.

How do I turn on the beam on a motorola MC9090

There may be a fault in the circuit that turns on the beam or the trigger may be defective.

Scanner beeps as if it was powering up but no beam! Just a weak red glow if you look directly into it?

Call Motorola. The device will most likely be replaced for you depending on the serial number. The phone number is 800-653-5350. Choose technical support, not hardware repair.

MC9090 trigger not working.

Out of all the motorola/symbol devices, this is the one i do not advice you to take apart, although if you don't have a repair contract with motorola, they will probably charge you a fixed price for repair of arounf £500 which will obviously hurt.

If you do decide to go ahead and open it, you will need to remove the screws from the bottom of the gun. Be aware that the top case is in very tight and you may end up breaking some of the cables inside as these are not very rugged.

Let me know if you do need any more help with this.

The red light on the scanner seems to be on most of the time

If you are using magellan 1000i with no button, then it must be your scanner broken. But If you use a button trigger try to push it a while. The Button is on top of the scanner, with a white / light green color.
