My lawnboy starts & runs well. But when I stop it, there is a grinding sound, as though there is dirt somewhere, or like it needs to be oiled.I am using the proper gas-oil mix . What do I need to do?

Check underside of mower deck for impacted grass. Clean if necessary.

Remove spark plug (for your saftey). Then turn machine on its side (fuel tank fill up). Use a putty knife or other blunt scraping tool and remove majority of impacted grass. Return machine right side up and install spark plug. Wait 5 minutes. Check oil level is safe and fuel level ok. Start mower and see if noise is gone.

If still making noise then likely something afoul with the blade brake.

Yes - I expect it is the blade brake as I did clean away most of the built up grass. And noise is only when I stop the mower. Thank you

SOURCE: Proper gasoline and oil mix ratio.

My echo uses 50-1 ration. Home Depot sells the small containers for Echo Leaf Blowers that you mix with one gallon of gas.

SOURCE: What gas and oil do I use on the Honda Excell 2600 pressure washr

That engine requires a separate gas and oil. There is an oil sump with oil level needle and cap on the side of the engine. This is where you fill it with special pressure washer pump oil available from any good outdoor store or place where pressure washers are sold. As for gas, Unleaded or Premium unleaded gas will work fine. Try not to use any fuel with ethanol blends however. Here is a list of oils that will give you an idea what to buy for the oil reservoir: http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref%255F%3Dnb%255Fss%255Fgw%26field-keywords%3Dpressure%2520washer%2520pump%2520oil%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps&tag=onlinetoolrev-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

you probably have gum or varnish built up inside the carb. take it apart and clean all the ports and jets with fresh gas. drain the float bowl and fill it with fresh gas as well. if you are not familiar with carbs, best not take it apart yourself, or pay VERY close attention to how it came apart.

When the key is in the ignition, It won't go back to the Run position from the start position causing a grinding sound to happen.

Sounds like a bad spring in the ignition cylinder or the ignition switch itself isn't returning the key and switch to the Run position as it should. Most any auto repair facility can check and replace the switch for you. Note that the ignition lock cylinder (where you put the key in and turn) is NOT the switch. The switch is connected by a linkage up to the lock cylinder. The cylinder moved the linkage and the linkage moves the switch.

It would not hurt to squirt some WD-40 or other spray lubricant in the lock cylinder to see if that resolves the problem. Don't use lithium grease though, only use a light lubricating oil spray, and don't go crazy with it. Just a couple of squirts.

Why did my lawnboy lawn mower quit while it was running?

If your not out of gas then loosen the fuel cap a bit and start your engine. if the unit keeps running then replace your fuel cap because it's not venting which builds up pressure in the tank and stops fuel flow. Another possibility is that you got dirt in your carb and it's blocking a passage. In this case clean your carb

Oil mixture for 1985f series 2 cycle lawn-boy mower

Contact your dealer ! but 32:1 sounds correct. 8 ounces of Lawnboy oil to two gallons of gasoline ....is 32:1, 8 ounces of oil to one gallon of fuel is 16:1 for the real old lawnboys,
When Toro bought out OMC,and started using Tecumseh mowers, the ratio changed in the late 80's or early nineties ! IIRC :o)

My lawn mower starts, runs for about 5 seconds and then dies. I need to prime it in order for it to start. It will keep running if I continually keep priming it. I have bought new gasoline, changed the oil...

The engine is starving for fuel, that is why it will keep running while you force the fuel to the engine with the primer button. At this point, the carb will have to be removed, disassembled and cleaned. I'm sure you will find blockage and dirt in the carb and also in the small orifices for air and fuel flow.

Consew sounds and runs real rough

Clean under needle plate....lint ec, also under bobbin case. If this does not help, it isprobably due for a service....if you continue to use it in this condition it may well do serious damage and need replacement.

My lawnboy 10304 runs about one minute and shuts down. Any ideas?

It sounds like it is 2 stroke.
Carefully remove the carb bowl, by undoing the brass bolt.
Examine the brass bolt for a small pin-hole in the side.
Use a piece of corn-broom NEVER anything else !!! and poke the hole(S) to make sure they are clear.
Blow out with air if available.
You can use this method to clean out all the carb orifices carefully.

Hope it helps,

Andy.

No oil pressure

I am a new motorcycle rider. I have a 600 Dirt Track Motard which shows an oil light and no pressure there is also a grinding noise. Recently I had to set it down in the street and the problem started after that. thanks for any suggestionsWell this one seems pretty straightforward. The oil light and lack of pressure mean that your oil pump has quit pumping (assuming that you've verified that there is oil in the crankcase). The grinding noise is common when running any internal combustion engine without oil pressure. That's the sound of the engine destroying itself.,,,
