I am beginning to suspect that it is a overheating problem leading to automatic shutdown.
I am having the same problem with an acer aspire 7720g. random shutdown. am now running windows 7 and it is far better as w7 uses far less cpu.

Disable some of the unnessary services being run at the background. eg. DHCP etc

It could be a overheating problem.Check the power supply.Or it could be a hardware problem may be the motherboard.I think you require a PC Tech to check the system completely.
