You don't give any details of the make/model so this is just a guess.
The backlight on many modern TVs is made up of strings of LEDs in series. If one LED fails open the entire string goes dark.
Your TV might have 2 strings of backlight LEDs, one on the left and one on the right, and the left string may have stopped working (likely due to one of the LEDs failing). You can check for this by shining a torch at the left side of the screen and looking carefully for the picture. If you can see it is actually there, it may just be unlit.
If this is the case it should be fairly easily repairable, although some models are easier/cheaper to repair than others.
That could be a number of things. Possible ribbon cable loose or sweep or memory board faulty. Also I would not rule out a break on the screen. Good luck

Hey, found the problem. Your Convergence IC chip went bad. Buy one at Bluestar International Components (bluestar-online.com) - order part number STK392-010 for 6.99. I've read that there are two in the system and replacing them both at same time is a good idea...so, order 2. Now, if you are handy, it will require you to open the back of the TV and solder out the old chip and replace with new. If not, then you might as well call a TV repair person and have them fix. However, every place I've called works on a minimum fee for "large screen TVs" - the cheapest I could find in Atlanta was $399 minimum service fee. So, I'm going to risk the home sodering job .... it's a 10 year old TV and as good as it's been to me, if I screw it up, I feel I've gotten my money out of it. Good luck with your repair. My parts are on order.

The mirrors and the Color Wheel of the Infocus sp4805 are atached with fragility by glue that with the high temperature and humidity deteriorates. The detachment of the color wheel or the mirrors drivers of light produce dark spots. It is easy to solve. Just paste again, but should be done by specialized professional.
