Do not clean the ribbon. Clean the Lens of the laser. USe a Q-tip and Glass Cleaner. Get a Can of Air From Radio Shack, and carefully blow out the area under the Laser Lens. Do not adjst the white gears at the back of the laser drive. If you do you will have to patiently adjust them or it.

My Xbox 360 keeps scratching my game discs?

Sounds like the xbox console needs the laser adjusted or secured as per the other comments. For any discs issues, read on.

Check to see if there are any scratches or laser burn marks on the discs.Scratches or marks on discs will render game discs unplayable or will freeze the game and will often show a message stating "Disc Read Error" or something to that effect. Best remedy for starters, is to clean the discs and make sure there are no scratches or marks left on the play-side of the discs. A common problem that XBOX owners are reporting is; if the console is moved during play, a whirring noise is heard and then when the disc is removed, very visible laser burn rings are found on the disc.

Laser burn, looks like complete or partial circular scratches around your disc. This occurs to discs when the games console has been moved whilst playing. Discs are then impaired by a ring of laser burn, which is a circular scratch into the disc. Some home remedies may help with very light scratches on some discs but a professional disc repair service is normally required to fix laser burn scratches or damage to XBOX discs.

For further help on XBOX disc repairs or to get XBOX discs repaired back to "As Good As New Condition", visit:

Check the "More Info" & "FAQ" Sections for further details on disc repairs and related matters.

If this laser burn scenario is consistently happening to your game discs especially if the console has not been moved or bumped against while the disc is in play, the games console itself may require repair. You should contact Microsoft for assessment and guidelines.

Hope this Helps!!

The ps2 won't realise there is a disk in it.

I have fixed this issue twice in two different PS2's. You have to take the PS2 apart and clean the laser. Also make sure the Laser can move freely, when you are done make sure the laser is at the most inner part before putting the PS2 back together. Taking it apart isn't too easy, but it's not that hard either. CAUTION: Be carefule of the ribbon cables, they will break EASILY. You have to carefully remove the cover, a ribbon cable( or two) needs to be disconnected before you can completely remove the cover.

It will hopefully work when you are done.

Problem with PS2 SCPH 75001

You will need a Magnifying glass, Flashlight, Toothpick, and Paper towels.

What you need to do is access your laser, and make sure the laser optics are clean. Using the magnifying glass and flashlight, inspect the lens for dust, smudges and lint. Using a Toothpick with a small piece of paper towel swab the lens to clean it. If you need a Cleaning solution, use Windex. If this does not solve the problem, Get a new KHS-400C laser from Ebay. When the new laser arrives, you will need to remove solder blobs from the ribbon circuit strip on the bottom of the laser. These are two small solder blobs near the Ribbon cable connector. I do this with soldering iron, Vise ( to hold the laser), and Solder wick.

PS 2 says no disk tried to put alternate disks but problem still persist

Your Laser is not seeing the Disc. Several reasons could be as follows:
  • Dirty lens on the laser
  • Bad ribbon cable not supplying power or reading the Laser.
  • Major misalignment of the laser
  • Motherboard Laser Driver IC burned up.
Alrighty then, you probably see now that when you get a no disc error, the fault is 99% related to the laser.

You have to clean it up and get all the dust out. Do not use alcohol on the Slim PS2 Laser. Use a q-tip dampened with rubbing alcohol to clean the lens. Dry the lens before you try it..

No data error all discs, even new ones

Hi STokesG101,

I am StokesG too.  Greg Stokes From South Carolina USA.  You Laser has melted.  If you good with Electronics repair like me, you could open the case back up and replace the laser.  The Ribbon cable that connects to the laser is held in place.  You have to carefully unlatch the retainer that holds the Ribbon in.  I think it is read and pulls out on both ends of the ribbon connector.  Its not a flip up type, it is a pull out type connector.  You can get another laser from

I can replace the laser for you for $40 which includes return shipping.  My email is and I run the website
