Sounds like a bad motherboard. What brand is it?

Battery not charging

Hi. I would suggest that you powerdrain your computer might fix this. To powerdrain your computer you must remove first the battery and unplug the ac adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds, after that you must place back the battery and plugin the ac adapter then turn on your computer. If this doesnt work try to powerdrain again the laptop then just use the ac adapter to turn on your computer and that is without the battery. If this one work consider replacing the battery or you call the tech support dept of HP if you are still under warranty so that they would replace it with a new battery without any charge. Hope this helps.

The battery will not charge unless the computer is off. it runs on the battery even if its plugged in why? if i unplug the the adapter then plug it in it charges for a few seconds and then stops and then...

1. First remove the Battery, clean the Battery contacts with the pencil eraser and insert the Battery in the Computer.

2. Connect the AC Adapter (Battery charger) securely to the Computer and the Power outlet.

3. If the issue persists, try connecting the AC Adapter to different Power outlet.

4. Make sure that both the connecting points (DC IN port on the Computer and the Power outlet plug) are securely connected and not loose.

5. If the issue persists, try with different AC Adapter.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Says plugged in not charging

Take out the battery and make sure you can turn on the laptop with just the AC Adaptor hooked up.

If you can then you know the AC Adaptor is good. Try another known good working battery in the laptop, if the battery charges then you know that the old battery is bad.

If the laptop doesn't charge with a know working battery or a new one then you know that the motherboard is bad.

Acer Aspire 2920 won't turn on, although plugged in with battery

First of all, what I'm about to tell you are general troubleshooting techniques - I make no claim that they will fix what you describe, but they may help lead you to a solution.
  1. Unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery
  2. Plug in the AC adapter and attempt to power on the laptop
  3. If it doesn't power on, see #6 below. If it does power on, but doesn't boot the OS, restart - pressing [SPACE] as the first Windows splash screen appears. When prompted, choose to delete the hibernation file and start a system boot.
  4. Shut the system down, disconnect the AC adapter, reinsert the battery, and attempt to power the laptop. If it doesn't start we know, at the very least, there's a battery problem.
  5. Plug in the AC adapter. If it shuts down immediately, or won't power back on after a shutdown. . .
  6. . . .there's a problem with the system board, probably the ciruitry associated with charging the battery.
I hope you 'see the light'. Good Luck!

Getting hot underneth

Both batteries could be dead. But if you bought a new battery, it's unlikely. I don't know what green light you see, but if it's on the power adapter, it just means it's turned on--not that it is charging.
Two possibilities: Your power adapter is bad or the motherboard is bad. Because you say the computer works if plugged in, then you have ruled out the adapter.
You should be checking/cleaning the battery contacts and if all else fails, going for a new motherboard.

If that is an old battery , it only means that the battery is already dead and needs a replacemenet, but if that battery is new make sure that the battery is charging if its not changing the prokblem can be the battery still....

Hope that helps...........
