The Windows Vista/7 driver may work. Others have managed to get the 9 to work but Dell doesn't have a Win8 driver. First are you installing the printer for the first time to the computer or did you upgrade the OS and are reinstalling the driver? If you have done an upgrade or attempted to install once before, you will need to delete any jobs in the printer queue.(Win+X > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > View Printers and Devices. Select your printer and then see what's printing. Cancel all jobs.) If you can't delete the jobs, press the Windows key and type in Command Prompt. Right click on the appropriate program and at the bottom of the screen, select Run As Administrator. Type in "net stop spooler" followed by enter (without the quotes). Follow that line with "net start spooler" again followed by pressing enter. After you see the responses, restart the computer. Then unplug the printer from the computer. Then uninstall the printer driver. (Win+X > Device Manager. Expand the Printers section. Right-click on the printer and then select uninstall driver.) Manually remove the printer from the Devices and Printers list. (Win+X > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > View Printers and Devices. Select your printer and then click Remove Device.)

The driver itself is available here: . Make sure that you select the x64 version if you have a 64-bit version of the OS. Most desktops and laptops currently sold have the 64-bit version of Windows 8. An older computer that was upgraded may have the 32-bit version of the OS.
Find the install file that you downloaded from the Dell site. Right click on the file and select Properties. Under the Compatibility tab, choose Always Run in Compatibility Mode for Windows 7 (use the drop-down menu to select the OS version). Click Apply and then OK to save the setting. Now double-click on the installer to run it. You will need to acknowledge the UAC to allow the program to run. You will need to repeat this Compatibility step on the Setup file after extracting the files from the downloaded file. Keep track of where the extraction places the files; my computer showed the default location of C:\dell\drivers\R165704 .
Tablets with Windows RT probably can't use the driver since it isn't offered through the Windows Store.

I hope this helps.

My Lexmark x2600 series printer will not communicate with my Dell Inspiron 1721 laptop. The computer doesn't recognize the USB connection. However the same printer and same USB connector works on other...

The whole problem seemed to be tied up with McAfee antivirus. It seems that this program runs its own firewall settings that sometimes interfere with the computer's communication. Once this program was removed and another antivirus installed, but problem was resolved.

Sanning problems for printer PIXMA MP 160

some printers can detect that the cartridges are refilled based ona barcode or scanning of the cartridges. Does this Cannon have ink tanks or ink cartridges. If it has intakes then the print head needs to be cleaned wth rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. If they are cartridges then it would be good just to buy the original cartidges. As far as the scanning goes this can be a direct connection to the printer going through maintenance. If it continues to not scan then you may need to uninstall the scanner. see if the scanner shows up in your scanners area. if not then it will need to be re-installed.

Installation for canon pixma ip 1500

Hey you again, you rated me yesterday Inappropriate. Actually, fixya expert afraid to give some solution because you will rated us Inappropriate even the problem is came from you where you was not clearly stated your problem.

Ok, but anyway I am still to help you, Is it the problem goes to the manual installation you need or the driver instead?

Printers used to be the bugbear of computer users. They were difficult to set up and ornery in operation. That's no longer the case and it's likely you'll have no problems getting your printer up and running. This is particularly the case if your printer comes packaged with your computer system or if you stick to well-known brands such as Hewlett-Packard, Epson, Lexmark and Canon.
Connecting a printer involves four steps:
  1. Unpacking your printer, removing any packaging material and installing the ink or toner cartridge. Refer to your printer's instructions to guide you.
  2. Connecting the printer cable to the printer and to the back of your computer.
  3. Connecting the printer's power cord to a power outlet.
  4. Installing the printer driver and any additional software. The printer driver is a piece of software that tells your computer how to interact with your printer.
If your printer comes as part of your system, you may find that its driver is already installed. In that case, all you'll need to do is unpack it, connect the printer cable and power cord and switch on your computer.
geekgirl.tip: Get a cable One word of warning: Make sure you purchase a printer cable! Often, this is not included in your computer system, despite it being an essential item. You'll need the correct type of cable for your printer: If it's a USB-enabled printer, you need a USB cable (note, the new USB 2 cables work with older USB 1 printers, too; so if in doubt, get a USB 2 cable); if it's a parallel printer, you'll need a parallel cable.
Make sure you get a cable long enough to reach easily from your printer to your computer. However, you should avoid cables longer than 10', because long cables can cause problems with communication between printer and computer. Try to position your printer so a 6' (or shorter) cable can make the connection.
Follow the wizard If your printer's software has not been pre-installed, read any installation instructions that accompany your printer and follow those instructions. If no instructions are provided, follow this procedure:
(Note: This procedure applies to printers which use a parallel connection. If your printer uses a USB connection, you should connect it while Windows is running and it will be recognised.)
  1. Make sure you have your original Windows CD-ROM handy. You may need it.
  2. Switch the computer off.
  3. Connect the parallel printer cable to your computer.
  4. Connect the printer's power cord to a power outlet.
  5. Switch on the printer and the computer.
  6. In most cases, Windows will detect that you've attached a new hardware device and it will launch the Add Hardware Wizard and attempt to search for the appropriate software. If the wizard doesn't launch and Windows appears to ignore your printer, you can launch the Add Printer wizard yourself by clicking the Start button, selecting Control Panel, clicking Printers And Other Hardware, and then clicking Add Printer.
  7. If the printer is directly connected to your computer, select the Local Printer Attached To This Computer option. If you will be connecting to the printer via a network connection, select the Network Printer option, then click Next.
  8. The wizard will first try to search for any Plug and Play devices (these are components that should, by rights, automatically notify Windows when they're first connected). If the wizard discovers your printer, it will display further instructions to complete the installation. You may need to restart your system to finish.
