I contacted company called Video Display Company (800-241-5005) for tube rebuild. They fax me a form to fill out send back to them with the tube.

Is this the type of work that I should let a repair person do the job?

Can someone help me with how to pull my tube?

I'm a computer engineer who never worked on TV before...

Please drop me a comment. Thanks.

By mid of Jan. 08, I completed the task; my TV is now good for few more years (knock on wood...)

Sent the part for rebuild, received back and reinstalled and many sleepless nights doing adjusting, focusing...

Rebuilding tube and the technical manual purchase cost me about $200. plus many hours of valuable heand-on lessons.

Thanks to everyone on this board and FixYa!

The screen turns blue after about 2 minutes of turning on the TV

Sony TVs has an Optical Block issue. If there is an issue with the optical block, then there will be green, blue patches or tint on the TV display. Try resetting the TV to the factory settings and try Power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue still persists, then TV may require service. You can contact the Customer relations team and check for the available options. Sony had repaired free of cost for such issues. Hence, contact the customer relations.

Tv comes on for 10 seconds then fades to a green tint then turns completely green for a few seconds than turns off

Hi,
Symptom shows tv got problem with green picture tube that need to be replaced.
Rear projection tv has 3 picture tubes, red-green-blue to make color picture.
Since its an old model so spare parts would hardly be available and local tv repair shop will help you to arrange required part, if they can.
Thanks.

Picture turns green ,usually within 10 minutes of turning it on.It will sometimes go back to normal color but generally returns to green. This happened when the set was much newer and Sony replaced all...

Green Tube maybe trying to short out or you can try adjusting screen drive to the Green Tube by turning control down a notch, Sony had a bad run on these with alot of Bad Tubes.

Sony KP-51WS500 projection tv. Screen is green with curved lines

The green picture tube has an internal short. Happened a lot with that model. The tubes are no longer availible. But a reputable company called Video Display will rebuild the tube completely. But the tube must be pulled and shipped to them. Most repair shops would charge around $400 to $500 for the complete job.

Sony kp-57ws500 green screen then auto shutoff

I have the same tv and it did the same thing only now it has red hues all around the picture as well. The service guy told me it was the green tube and it would be about $500.00 to replace and may not fix the problem. What a p.o.s. I will not be guilty of buying any other Sony products from now on.

Blue Screen and TV shuts off

Yes, you are correct on the phrasing. The CRT's were a common issue with these units and all three must be replaced as sooner or later the green will follow the other two CRT's. It was a great model and had a beautiful picture when operating normally. The CRT's are costing about 200 each for rebuild as the green and blue are mostly no longer available. Your repair cost are going to approach $1000.00 or more.
