Question about Toshiba 43H70 43" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Tuner problem? The first the tv quit working on the built in tuner, but still worked fine using the composit inputs. Now, they don't work and the tv will stay on for a minute or 2 then turn off and the red powert light blinks. The minute or 2 that it is on, all channel numbers, menu items, etc are doubled in red and green and with what appear to be red, green static bars on tv screen...Any Ideas,,,,,Thanks Shawn

Tuner does not work

If the tuner in the set is bad connect to component or even composite inputs on the rear of the set and bypass the tuner built into the set.

What are you using for signal and what makes you think the tuner in the set is bad?

ProView has a bad cable connection. Other tvs hooked to the same cable don't

It could be the tuner in the set is the problem--there is since the rear inputs work fine a way to "get around this".

Get a Cable box that has the audio/video outputs on the rear and connect to one of the rear inputs on the set--want to watch cable--go to that input and use the box to change channels.

If the tuner is bad you are likely going to have to replace the entire board it is on--not cheap.

The rear inputs bypass the tuner and all the signal circuitry from it.

Also if signal routed via rear jacks you should notice a better picture and sound quality.

Can anyone replace a cable tuner

I bought a 42" Akai TV that really was just a monitor because it didn't have a built in tuner. I dug up an old vcr hooked my cable up to it and plugged rca cables to the composite out on the vcr to the composite in on the tv and set the input on my TV to run off that input.I was able to change channels through the vcr it worked like a cable box. Thats just an idea that could save some bucks. Oh yeah, if you do this make sure you get an older vcr that has a tuner in it.

Tv is fuzzy but sound comes in fine

ya sounds like your tuner is shot. if you can get a cable box from your cable provider you can use an hdmi or composite input rather than the standard coax. It would also give you a better pict.

Problems with a Sabrent USB 2.0 TV Tuner

Sorry I can't answer your question directly.

I expect the tuner arrived with a set of instructions? If you followed the instructions exactly without success the unit is probably faulty and a call to the retailer or manufacturer's helpline would be advisable.

If it is faulty it would be the retailer's responsibility to rectify the situation. The person who bought you the gift made a contract with the retailer to be supplied with a unit of merchantable quality - a working example...

Channels won't come in

Hello divalisaf,

These are a few things I want you to check first.

1) Make sure the cable set top box is on and the cable is connected to the TV properly (This may seem simple but I have had to charge many people a $60.00 service fee plus a $70.00 travel fee just to turn on a cable set top box)

2) Make sure the TV is set to the proper input you are using (RF( F connector) , HDMI, Component video, and or Composite Video)

3) Make sure the TV is set to the proper channel (either channel 3 or channel 4 depending on your area) The cable set top box should be action as your tuner.

If all of these conditions are met, then we can begin troubleshooting.

First determine if the other inputs work (HDMI, Component video (RGB), Composite video (yellow), s-Video (6 pronged black cable).
If the inputs work then you possibly have a tuner problem
If the inputs don't work then then problem is likely in the video microprocessor.

If the problem is in the tuner or the connective circuitry then we will have to determine where to get a replacement tuner (or you can just use one of your other video inputs)

If the problem is in the video section (which includes the microprocessor) we are going to have to troubleshoot the video section which will involve you having a background in electronics, if not I would suggest having a qualified TV technician perform service on this TV.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Magnavox TV not working in the UK

I don't know about the frequencies being different or not, but to get to youse your TV you can use the tuner in an old VCR if you have one sitting around.

No video signal

I have had the input switching IC, and or parts failures in the input amplifiers go defective in these sets.

This can happen from a static electricity discharge while connecting something, or if one of the devices being connected has an electrical leakage and causes some current to come up in to the input of the TV set.

I have also had the input jack assembly go defective and require servicing. This is from one of the jacks breaking and causing an internal short, or if the circuit board became cracked or broken from the TV falling or being roughly handled.

Atenna plug pulled out of tv, how do i get a signal now?

It has always amazed me how many "F" connectors get pulled out of tuners. I know because I've replaced hundreds, usually successfully, saving the cost of a new tuner. You need to unsolder the tuner from the board and remove the side cases. If the tuner board is not damaged beyond repair, (if it is you have to get creative), a new unit can be soldered in place. Put everything back together and you will be in buisness. New "F" connectors can be purchased from MCM Electronics at, part #215543 for $2.50. I always use a new connector as the old ones are usually trashed. Reliability is compromised if you don't use a new one. Technically you do not need the cable hookup since you have composite inputs. For my money I would just hookup a VCR (with a tuner) coming out of the VCR composite jacks into the TV composite jacks and use the tuner on the VCR leaving the TV in Aux, or whatever they call the composite inputs, and call it a day. It's you're choice but using a VCR tuner is faster, easier, cheaper and if you want to play a VHS tape you're already hooked up! If you are a traditionalist and want the TV 100% remember to be safe while working on it. Good luck whichever way you go.
