Re: Keyboard

Have you tried using the numeric pad while the num lock key is turned on? if this doesnt resolve your problem, you're gonna need a replacement keyboard.

I cleaned my keyboard while turned on and now I cannot get my number pad to work, which buttons did I accidentally push to get to turn off and how can I get them back on.

Based on your description of the problem you're experiencing, it sounds like you most likely pressed the "NUM LOCK" key. If NUM LOCK was activated before you cleaned the keyboard and was accidentally pressed during cleaning, this key press would deactivate NUM LOCK, causing the number pad to stop responding. To reverse this, simply press NUM LOCK again. The NUM LOCK button is located right above the "7" key on the number pad (see picture below).

Alternatively, since the setting determining whether NUM LOCK is activated when your computer is started is stored on your hard drive, you can try restarting the computer to revert back to an active NUM LOCK. Be sure to try this in case the first solution above does not work.

My keyboard acts like the shift button is down but when i plug in a usb board it does the same thing.

Check if the CAPS LOCK is on. The key to toggle this is right above the left Shift key (next to A). There is usually a light with the indicator near the top of the keyboard (other lights for Num Lock and Scroll Lock).

You can tell if it is a Caps issue if the pressing the numbers above QWERTY give the numbers not !@ etc.

I hope this helps.

(you should turn off the computer and clean both keyboards. Sometimes, some dirt gets into the keyboard and triggers stray signals. There are a number of cleaning products that work; just make sure the keyboard is dry before turning the computer back on.)

The number keys won't work, the ones located on the far right of the keyboard/calculator area....

  • Disconnect and reconnect your keyboard if it is external. Make sure that the connector is completely inserted into the port. (USB plugs fit into ports one way only, and won't allow you to make a connection if you try to connect them in upside-down.) Test the keyboard again.
  • Connect your keyboard to a different USB port.
  • Try a different keyboard on your computer if possible
If same problem occur even though the keyboard is connected in a different computer, then you need to contact a local repair tech and have it repaired.

Thank you!

There should be a button called "numlock" which will enable to you use the keypad to the right of the keyboard, however, you don't need to "lock" the keyboard to use the numbers on the top row.
