The overall gist was his tv is a 60 hz and he set his wii to 50 hz then the screen went blank and he can't see the menu to reset the console to 60 hz. He's tried the reset button but it's not made any difference.

We have a wii and we live in the US, we installed the wii on Monday and played with it. On Wednesday we gave the wii to our children and reinstalled, it doesn't work. We pressed the power on, the green light comes on, and the blue light comes on ver briefly, no sound, no images...any ideas will be great.

To reset back to the 50 Mhz frequency on a Wii you press reset on the Wii and the down direction button/rocker on the wii remote. It works - I just did it!

I rang the helpline about the 60hz issues. she advised that for new HDTVs, you need the RGB cable (sold separately). however, if you have an older TV about the house or a neighbour/friend with one, you can plug the RWY cable into it in order to reset the wii to the 50hz. I know how you feel, I did it too.

What do you mean by wrong frequency? Do you mean they put it in progressive scan mode?

  1. Access the Wii System Settings screen (how to).
  2. Click on the left blue arrow twice to reach the Wii System Settings 3 menu options.
  3. Select "Format Wii System Memory."

  5. If Parental Controls are set, enter the PIN.
  6. If you are sure you want to erase the Wii console's system memory, select "Format."

SOURCE: why cant i get my wii console to work in color

Well it might either be the tv or the av cables that is causing the wii system to be in black grey and white then.
Picture Is Black and White or Does Not Appear Situation:

  • The console powers on and shows a black and white image on the television screen
  • The console powers on and there is no image on the television

What to do:
  • Determine whether the Standard AV Cables (packaged with the system) or the Component Cables (sold separately) are being used.

  • AV Cables

    • Ensure the yellow, red, and white cables are connected to the correct corresponding inputs on the TV. (How To)

    • Try another set of inputs on the TV, or hooking the Wii console up to another TV.

    • If the TV does not have the yellow, red and white inputs, it will most likely have component inputs which allow standard AV cable use. Try these AV hookup steps. (How To)

  • Component Cables

    • Ensure the red, blue and green video cables are connected to the correct corresponding inputs on the TV. (How To)

    • Try another set of inputs on the TV, or hooking the Wii console up to another TV.

Still Not Resolved:
  • If the television is continues to show a black and white image when powering on the Wii console, then the problem is likely with the system and it will need to be repaired. Please call 1-800-255-3700 so that we may assist you further.

Eg. disconnect any home theatre or speakers from the TV.

Verify with audio menu if the settngs of TV speakers is on or off ?

is displayed.
2. Use the arrow buttons on the remote to highlight audio and press ok. The AUDIO menu is displayed.
3. Use the arrow buttons to highlight the setting you wish to adjust, then press left/right arrow buttons to change the setting:
• TV speakers - Turns the built-in speakers on or off.

Lastly have you tried restoring the TV to factory default settings.

1. Press the menu button on the remote. The on-screen menu is
displayed.
2. Use the arrow buttons on the remote to highlight system
and press ok. The SYSTEM menu is displayed.
3. Highlight reset & admin and press ok. The RESET & ADMIN
menu is displayed.
4. Highlight reset TV to factory defaults and press ok.
5. If you have changed the default parental control passcode,
enter it now.
The TV displays, "Select Reset to restore all TV settings to
factory defaults and clear all account information."
6. Highlight reset and press ok.

My picture was like 1380x640 but now its 680x480 and i cant play my xbox because the picture is messed up how do i change this... ive tried going into setting and nothing works..

Have you tried adjusting the aspect ratio by pressing the ZOOM button. There you can select Normal, Wide, Zoom, and Cinema modes. Normal mode: selects the aspect ratio that matches the source's aspect ratio.

If this doesn't work, try power-cycling the TV by turning it off, unplugging it & leaving it unplugged for a few minutes. Then plug it back in, turn it on. You can also restore factory default settings.

Press MENU.
Press LEFT or RIGHT to select SETUP, then press DOWN to open the SETUP menu.
Press UP or DOWN to select Restore Default, then press RIGHT or Enter.
When a message asks if you want to restore factory settings, select YES to restore the settings, or select NO to exit without restoring settings.

The picture is almost like it is out of convergence it gets better when brite and contrast is turned down

Good day sir John!!!!

That problem is usually cause of bad T-con board (T-con board is the one that responsible for the quality of picture) in normal bright and contrast you see the color/picture is distorted..The color is like over tint and the quality is not good..

However, there are some points to consider like wrong settings and weak/bad connections of digital cable..

Try this steps:

For wrong settings-to determine if you have a wrong settings or you press wrong buttons on remote..Try to go to menu and find default settings or factory settings then press enter to restore factory settings in this procedure all previous settings return to original so the tv is works fine after this if your problem is in the settings..

For digital cable fault- You can determine the problem by playing DVD movies on your TV if the works fine in DVD movies.Your TV is good but there something wrong with the connections of your digital cable please let me know!!..Or you can try to wiggle the coaxial cable on the rear side of your TV and look at the TV screen while you do that and see if there is any improvement or reaction of color/picture try to fix the coaxial wire...

If the above procedure not worked the problem is on T-CON board let me know first if you decided to replace it for proper instruction on how to replace to avoid damage and for your safety..

Just keep on touch sir!!!!

Thanks for choosing my service..

Hope it helps.

You can get the installation guide for a Zenith H27H38DT free at the following location. Look on page 36 to go into the VIDEO MENU and set PICTURE PREF to PRESET. That should restore the factory settings, so try that first. If you go into the actual Installer Menu on page 41, proceed with caution.

The [A/D] button on the remote control switches between analogue and dgitial TV.

If this doesn't work you can restore the TV to factory settings as follows:

Press and hold the [Menu] button on the TV (NOT on the remote)

The picture / sound / features menu will appear.

Continue to hold until this menu clears.

Release the [Menu] button and wait for about 90 seconds.

The TV will go blank and eventually return to the original install menu.

Install the TV as you did from new.

This will clear ALL analogue and digital TV channels and install again from scratch.

This should be used if the TV ever freezes on digital, or if any of the channels appear in the wrong place or not at all.
