Re: restore factory settings

To reset back to the 50 Mhz frequency on a Wii you press reset on the Wii and the down direction button/rocker on the wii remote. It works - I just did it!

Re: restore factory settings

I rang the helpline about the 60hz issues. she advised that for new HDTVs, you need the RGB cable (sold separately). however, if you have an older TV about the house or a neighbour/friend with one, you can plug the RWY cable into it in order to reset the wii to the 50hz. I know how you feel, I did it too.

Re: restore factory settings

What do you mean by wrong frequency? Do you mean they put it in progressive scan mode?

SOURCE: how do i reset my wii to factory settings

Format (Erase) Wii System Memory This option is used to delete ALL Channels and ALL save data that have been added to the Wii console and will wipe the system memory clean, as it was when purchased new. Please note that if you also have a Wii Shop Account, that data should be deleted first (click here for instructions).

To delete ALL Channels and save data
  1. Access the Wii System Settings screen (how to).
  2. Click on the left blue arrow twice to reach the Wii System Settings 3 menu options.
  3. Select "Format Wii System Memory."
  4. settingsformat.gif
  5. If Parental Controls are set, enter the PIN.
  6. If you are sure you want to erase the Wii console's system memory, select "Format."

SOURCE: why cant i get my wii console to work in color

Well it might either be the tv or the av cables that is causing the wii system to be in black grey and white then.
Picture Is Black and White or Does Not Appear Situation:

  • The console powers on and shows a black and white image on the television screen
  • The console powers on and there is no image on the television

What to do:
  • Determine whether the Standard AV Cables (packaged with the system) or the Component Cables (sold separately) are being used.

  • AV Cables

    • Ensure the yellow, red, and white cables are connected to the correct corresponding inputs on the TV. (How To)

    • Try another set of inputs on the TV, or hooking the Wii console up to another TV.

    • If the TV does not have the yellow, red and white inputs, it will most likely have component inputs which allow standard AV cable use. Try these AV hookup steps. (How To)

  • Component Cables

    • Ensure the red, blue and green video cables are connected to the correct corresponding inputs on the TV. (How To)

    • Try another set of inputs on the TV, or hooking the Wii console up to another TV.

Still Not Resolved:
  • If the television is continues to show a black and white image when powering on the Wii console, then the problem is likely with the system and it will need to be repaired. Please call 1-800-255-3700 so that we may assist you further.

I accidentally set my wii to HDTV settings and I need to reset it back to normal tv but my screen is so messed up I cant see options or anything

You can reset your Nintendo Wii video settings to use Composite (or RCA - Yellow, Red and White) cables by doing the following:

1. Make sure the Nintendo Wii is powered off and a red light is showing.

2. With the power off, unplug the video cables from the back of the Nintendo Wii, leave them plugged into your TV (these should be the RCA/Composite cables)

3. Press the Power button on the front of Nintendo Wii. Make sure the cables are still unplugged.

4. Keep the Nintendo Wii powered on and plug your cables back into it with it still running.

5. If all went well, the picture should appear normally now.

6. Once the picture has reappeared, you should go into the Nintendo Wii Menu (the Wii button in the bottom left hand corner) and change the display back to 480i to make the changes permanent.

WI when connected only shows black and white shaking picture which is out of sync with AV output

Had the Wii been working? Something changed? Anyway, sounds like either a loose connecting cable, bad cable or improper settings. If you can see the picture well enough to get into the wii settings change it back to Standard TV resolution and make sure the screen size is correct. Are you PAL or NTSC? Try it on another TV. Get a friends A/V cable and test that.

I have just purchased a used Wii system and every thing works fine except that it is in black and white help.

Hi Anne,

It could be due to the wii's current video settings, the previous owner would have had a TV that ran on different viewing options. The black and white picture is caused by having the Wii settings output at PAL 60Hz and the TV input at PAL 50Hz or vice versa (or NTSC). Try going to the wii settings menu and try a couple of different video settings until the colour comes :). If this does not work can you please post what connection you are using for ex. AV or composite.

Wii screen shows shifted to the left and can't fix it in settings

well, if you can't fix it in settings, try restoring your TV to factory defaults. That should do it. If not, i have NO IDEA. LOL

Screen is compressed both horizional and vertical

Hi Rod,
If you can still see/read what's happening on the screen, go back to the Wii Options screen, select "Wii Settings" on the right, click the Screen option, and make sure "Widescreen settings" match your TV (if in doubt, choose 4:3). Click confirm, then click "TV Resolution" and ensure it is on Standard 480i. With these settings, the Wii should be viewable on almost any TV.

Wii shows up as "no signal" on T.V. It worked fine until I turned the wii off. All connections are fine.

Sounds to me like its a issue with the TV accidently being put on the wrong AV settings. Double check to make sure your on the right settings for instance av1 on your cables and av1 on the tv settings through the menu or remote control options. If that isnt the issue try it on another tv just to be sure it still isnt a tv component.

You can also double check to make sure nothing is lose or backwards getting one of the colors in the wrong position (we all have done it hehe).

Also try unplugging the wii, all together and unplug the power cord from the unit and from the wall leave it unplugged for 2min minimum and this will do a soft reset on the unit. Nintendo taught me that one hehe.

Wii freezing up due to message

This is easy, just hold + and - at the black startup screen that comes up when you turn your wii on. This will put it in maitenence mode and disable the message board. From there you can do anything you want with your wii as long as you don't use the message board. Hope that helps.

Nintendo wii

This may go beyond the factory settings, (completely renewed). Goto the wii options menu and click wii settings, and go all the way to the end and click format wii system memory, and read the description to make sure you want to do this and then click format if you want to restart or go back. Note: this is the only icon on wii settings menu that illuminates yellow while the others illuminate blue.
