Hard drive not recognized

If you replace you hard drive in a stand alone dvr - can the hard drive be installed straight from the box or will it have to be specially prepared - like formatting etc.

There will be bespoke dvr software on the drive, this would need to be transferred to the new drive. there may be bespoke formatting as well, check the makers web site

Hello I have a bunker hill 8 channel DVR and a 1tb external hard drive, but when I plug it in to use as extra memory, it does not detect it, is there a size limit to what I can use with the system?

We have satellite TV and Internet, with DVRs. My current DVR recognizes both of my external hard drives, but my last model would only recognize certain models. I called the help center and they told me it should work, but it never did. I finally found, on their website, a page describing how to use an external drive with their DVR. It said "Only model (fill in the blank) and model (fill in the blank) of (fill in the blank) brand will be recognized by the DVR".
So, my advice is search for your owner's manual or try online to see what it says. I have two surveillance DVRs that will recognize the same external hard drives. I managed to install a large internal hard drive in one of my DVRs, maybe that is a workable thing for you.

How to make WD MyBook essential 1Tb work on sony bravia EX300 LCD TV ? I tried to connect the external hard drive on my sony dvd player and it appears on the tv screen that the USB device is not...

this will not work by it self you will either need to buy a computer with media software that will support your hard drive or a DVR that will support you hard drive.
the hard drive connected to the device you have tried to connect to are not smart devices they will not support a stand alone external drive even though there is a usb port.

I've inserted PC/system hard drive into enclosure and connected by USB port to my stand-alone computer . . .How do I recognize or where do I find the menu to allow me to access the attachment/enclosure...

You do not have to do anything out of the ordinary for it to recognise. Connect the USB cable to the PC. If the hard drive is above 250Gb in capacity, connect the external power supply to it. Turn on any switc/buttons in the casing. Your PC should detect it as a Mass Storage device or as a regular hard disk.

Dvr no longer recognizes hard drive

Try switching around some wires.
If that doesn't work then it might be damaged.
I suggest plug it into another computer to see if it still works. Find out if it's the hard drive or the computer.

How do you format the hard drive?

I have set up a dozen or so if these units.... so it's fairly simple (if you understand the terminology) - By the way, I just got off the phone with Samsung tech support to confirm. John at GVI /Samsung says the drive cannot exced 160 Gig or it will not recognize it period. Secondly, the drive cannot have any format or partition whatsoever. So use a partition tool and delete the partition and the DVR will initialize it and format the drive to suit it's operating system.
I have had luck repartitioning the drives in a basic FAT 32 and making sure I did NOT set the partition as active..and the DVR configured the drive properly. Good Luck!

Hard drive

Some hard drives will only work as a single device when jumper-ed as "stand-alone", try finding this option or alternatively, remove the jump altogether and try again.
