1) NEVER adjust to where the deck wheels touch the ground. The wheels are to ride 1/4" off the ground. 2) The long lever to your left which raises & lowers the deck has 3 settings. 1- Fully back toward you which has the deck raised (called transport mode). 2- Halfway down which is the normal mowing mode (called float mode) 3- Fully away from you which sets the deck fully on the ground. This mode is ONLY used for VERY rough terrain where the deck risks getting pushed into "transport" or "full up" mode & getting stuck there. 3) On front-to-back tilt, the front should be 1/2inch lower than the back for least damage to the grass. Ok-now to adjust "cutting" height. 1) Park on a level, flat surface. 2) Pull the deck lever fully back toward you to put the deck into "transport" mode. 3) twist the "cutting" height knob (just below your seat) to the height you want the grass cut. Has choices by 1/2" increments from 1" to 3.5". The deck in "transport" mode is 4". 4) Lower the deck lever to the midway/"floating" mode point. 5) Adjust each deck wheel with its own peg & pin to have at least 1/4" clearance from ground. Thats it for "cutting height" adjustments

1 Locate the height adjustment lever on the inside of the left rear wheel. 2 Kneel next to the mower and push the left height adjustment lever toward the center of the mower. This will unlock the lever from the locking pin on which the height is currently set. Read more: How do I Adjust the Height on a Great States Reel Mower? ' eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/how_6834215_do-great-states-reel-mower_.html#ixzz21NOr1e8d
3Rotate the lever toward the front of the mower to lower the height of cut, or toward the rear of the mower to raise the height of cut.
4 Release the lever over the locking pin closest to the desired height of cut.
5 Repeat these steps with the adjustment lever on the right-side rear wheel. Be sure to set the right wheel lever to the same position as the left-side wheel's lever for an even cut.
You either have hand adjusters that allow you to put wheels at desired height ,or you would have to unbolt your wheels from the deck and place them at your desired height. The deck would have a number of holes in it for just this purpose. GOOD LUCK.
Only two ways you can acheive this. the first is to have your rear suspension modified, or lowered by about an inch should do it. This job would most likely have to be done at a mechanics shop. But is possible. The second solution, involves lowering your seat height, by cutting about an inch or so of foam off the top of the seat. This job is also best done by an upholsterer, but is a possible aternative to lowering the suspension, get your seat chopped down.
Is this the first time cutting grass with a lawn tractor?
How tall of grass?
Use the grass cutting heigth adjustments on the tractor to a higher setting when cutting tall grass. Cut again to a lower height setting on the second pass. Grass higher than your tractor is not good for your tractor. Follow the manual instructions for best results.
