SOURCE: 42 inch LG Plasma TV - Lost picture

Our LG 50" plasma tv screen went black after a popping noise but still had sound, after great diliberations decided to take the back off and have a peek!
We unplugged the tv and tested the fuses (there were three we could see) one had blown, the one on the left as you look at the back of the tv it also has one above it. We wrote the code/seriel number down and took the fuse to the electrical wholesalers Maplin and bought a pack of 10 fuses for £1.29 replaced the fuse in the tv and everything now fine!!!!!!
Hope this might be of use to anyone whose lost the picture after a loud popping/snacking noise but still has sound.

SOURCE: LG 42PX4MVH PLASMA TV - Sound but no picture.

I have the same issue with my LG 42PC3DVA and I narrowed it down to the Y SUS board. After a little research there are a few items that are prone to go. The ceramic fuses (as you found), sometimes the capacitors on the Y SUS, Z SUS, and power supply go along with them You can tell because thy will be bulged at the top instead of flat. I replaced a few of my capacitors - they are only $0.89 each so it was MUCH cheaper than a board.

The other thing that is common on the Y SUS in particular are the FETs (also called MOSFET). They can be replaced if you are good with a soldering gun but they are static sensitive so be grounded. They are also a bit tricky to test so you may want to do some research on how to determine if this is the issue... or you can just replace the whole board.

SOURCE: 42" LG Plasma tv, no picture - black screen, but have sound.

Most a likely a problem with your Y-Sustain board which will then not drive the screen giving a black picture. The fuse on the board may be open circuit & need replaced but most likely you will need to have the sustain board replaced.

Get sound and "invalid format" message displayed instead of picture

Could have still been hit by a surge. Take the back off of the TV and look at the main board were you connect your HDMI. See if it is scorched or components that blackened. Also check your DVD player on another set. Your DVD player could be the problem.

I have an RCA tv model #HD56W58 purchased in 2006. A month ago, we dropped the ground to the house, and the 220 surge took out most of our other TV sets, but this one seemed to be fine. Suddenly the...

May or may be not, but there are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc. Look for 5vdc, 12vdc, and 24dvc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague

No pic or sound

Hi,
If you have confirmed that your power cable is connected properly from your TV to the wall outlet (bypass surge protector strip if you are using one), then no picture and no sound is typical of SMPS (Power Supply) board gone bad. It can cost upwards of $200 plus labor. The good thing is, LG generally offers two (2) years parts and labor warranty for their big screen TVs. LG Repair turn around time is usually fast. Goodluck!

Sound but No Picture

Perhaps your remote is set to video recorder?  Try that first, and if no response, try calling up a menu on your TV and look for the Picture Settings.
Good Luck.

It sound to me like a defective light engine. If so this is a very expensive repair if you set not under warranty or a service contract. This could have been damaged by a power surge.
